Hooters' Vegas resort files for Chapter 11 --- Good!
Hooters' Vegas resort files for Chapter 11

The Las Vegas resort with the brand name of Hooters has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, court papers show.

The 696-room resort will continue to operate while the parent company, 155 East Tropicana LLC, negotiates with creditors, The Las Vegas Sun reported Tuesday.

The resort's unsecured creditors include Sysco Food Services, NV energy and International Game Technology with debts totaling $394,000. It also owes Hooters of America $69,000.

If unionized, yes. Otherwise, it's just another tired bumper sticker with browning adhesive.

At least there's a line that doesn't get crossed at Hooters as opposed to slovenly sexist "men" in college.

48. Some of it is not sexist, just hick. I grew up in a small town. I went to
college in a larger city and met women from all over the country as a fellow student. I remember you women in my freshman mandatory gym class that had the largest breasts that I had seen on a woman at that time. They were something like natural, erect 38C. I gawked at first, but became platonic friends with her. She was a wonderful person and was very aware of and embarrassed by her abundant natural gift.

Hiring them exclusively? Or merely hiring them as part and parcel of the greater workforce? Seems a rather relevant and precise difference to me.

21. Many Vegas institutions hire them exclusively, at least for certain jobs.
There are quite a few places that people go because they want to see attractive women. Should modeling be outlawed because modeling agencies don't hire unattractive people?

40. Thank goodness
Women have such caring, well-intentioned, know-what's-best-for-them people to tell them what to do with their lives, where they should be allowed to work, how they should dress. From within progessive circles, no less.

Heaven forbid women make their own decisions because they might make the wrong decisions. What women need is protecting. From themselves. Some say "sin" others say "sexism" it's all OK so long as we don't chance asking what the woman wants. What does she know anyway?

(Do I really need a sarcasm thingy?)

By the way, I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest that the poor, exploited women Hooters are a fraction of the overall workforce of cooks, dishwashers, housekeepers, maintenance, bookkeepers and whatnot. These folks essentially make their own living working at a resort that openly markets the attractiveness of its wait staff as its primary selling point. Do these other employees share the guilt of exploitation for personal gain?

2. It's a wonder anything is open in this town anymore.
I recently got to spent seven nights in two different hotels when my wife's family came out to visit us. Due to schedule issues, their visits ended up staggered so we spent four nights at the Excalibur and three at the LV Hilton. This was all arranged and paid for by my brother-in-law, who really is an awesome fellow.

The prices of everything are ridiculous now. There is no longer any concept of a "loss leader" awesome deal to get people through the door, and most of the table games are set up to be so tight that you can hear them squeak from 100 feet away, at least on the Strip. EVERY poker machine paid out on the worst pay table you can find for whatever variation of the game was offered. Needless to say, what very little money my wife and I had of our own wasn't spent on any form of gambling.

And yet they're trying to build still more stupid crap along there. I don't ever go along the Strip normally, so I hadn't been in the thick of it for about 5 years. But as we rode the bus to get to each hotel I was shocked at how much more building has occurred, despite the fact that almost every property is starved for customers and revenue.

I can't wait to get the fuck out of here.

I think location matters out there, and it didn't have anything really special beyond the typical Hooters thing in my opinion. Anyone can go to Hooters, but to stay at the Rio is a new experience for instance.

23. Hooters locations sucks.
There are lots of comments to be made from the posts in this thread. Mainly, though, it's about how broke the city is. Last time my wife and I went, we stayed at Luxor, in a beautiful (I use that term loosely, in a sort of trailer-trash way) hot-tub suite -- for $49. Who the hell can make money by renting hot tub suites for $49? Luxor is at the very end of the strip (or the beginning, depending upon your arrival), near the airport. But Hooters is down a side street, even closer to the airport. It just seemed like a horrible location. As for the actual hooters, how can anyone be offended at a Hooters in LV? Luxor tried to bill itself as a family place, yet there were 3-story-high billboards all over the hotel for the strip show (and Carrot Top) playing in the hotel theater. Anyone who is offended at anything in Las Vegas is being ridiculous. The entire city is offensive.

26. Thanks, you see it
And you are right. I don't fly out there for anything but golf, gambling, and a few things men don' talk about. Nevertheless, the location of that casino thing they call Hooters sucked. Luxor is okay. Like most casinos; you get there cheap in advance but the money is made on the tables in the slots. It is what it is, and I am not a judgmental person regardless. I enjoy being out there. Carrot top sucks. LOL

The stripper show I could almost understand -- almost, but if you want to see naked women, any local strip club will show you a lot more for a lot less -- but CARROT TOP? People pay money to see that shit? Really?

Words fail. Yeah, I've never really understood the attraction of Vegas. Maybe if I had a lot of money and could afford $4k a night suites, world class dining every meal and access to all the best shows, Vegas would be great. As it is, if I were to go back to Vegas I'd play a bit of blackjack, try to see Cirque du Soleil and go to a few buffets. On my budget, I'd like to think that I could have a better time close to home and save a lot of travel money.
