So when the congressional committee comes and goes without ending Social Security or Medicare...
I wonder if DU is going to erupt with as much talk?

1. Probably not. We talk more when we are upset and afraid than when we
are happy. I think that is human nature. But I will be willing to admit I was wrong in my fears.

3. Ending or whittling?
Edited on Tue Aug-02-11 02:50 PM by Big Blue Marble
Your premise is faulty. No one will end either program in the short term.
We will see and until then we should all be waiting to exhale.

This smugness is really uncalled for, don't you think? People have every right to be concerned
about these programs, especially when the Democratic President said he wants to change them.

These programs are the life blood for many. These are survival issues. Of course, people are frightened.
Why do you need to mock that fear?

4. Oh Please. They'll ride in on ponies and not slash entitlements that never contributed
to the deficits anyway, but let's have a fucking super committee to figure how to best screw them.

LET IT STINK!

6. SS and Medicare are in their sights - just a matter of when and how.
Probably not by the commission, but the pukes will find a vehicle. After all, they know that Dems will now break on this unlike ever before.

7. Another one with a false premise
:eyes:

People are not talking about ending Social Security or Medicare but ending it as we know it. Privatizing them over time will be a disaster. Tweaking them to the point where beneficiaries are gouged with impossibly high deductibles will be a disaster.

Ending the programs as we know them would be a disaster. And that's what people are worried about.

Ending them completely is the goal of the Republican Party. They've been trying ever since the inception of each program. Ignore that at your own peril.

8. K&R for the sheer ridiculousness.
Has "DU" maintained that these programs will be ended?

Should those who oppose tampering with these programs remain silent while the decision-making process moves forward?

Will you ever have the courtesy to thank the activists for their willingness to play a part in the process, as best they can, even though it seems to earn them nothing but scorn from the sidelines?
