Jon Stewart on the debt deal: ‘So, the Democrats got hosed’
Source: RawReplay
By Roxanne Cooper

Airing President Obama’s countless statements that any compromise would include increased tax revenues, Jon Stewart joined the chorus of those criticizing the debt ceiling deal reached by the House on Monday.

In tonight’s opening segment, Stewart also played a clip from Obama’s speech earlier today, in which the President said, “I want to thank the American people. It’s been your voices, your letters, your emails, your tweets, your phone calls that have compelled Washington to act in the finals days.”

The Daily Show host mock-responded by saying, “Let me just stop you right there. You’re not pinning this turd on us. The last time I checked, the buck …if it’s the buck … the buck stops with you. Not the Twitterverse.”

Stewart also chastised the Administration for not seeing the showdown coming, which was predicted at a press conference last December by National Journal’s Marc Ambinder.

Watch the whole segment below, first broadcast on Monday, August 1, 2011

1. It lies with the comedians to tell real truth... how very Shakespearean.

"well, no one wants America to default" (paraphrased). Obama did a nice job of pretending to be clueless about what Ambinder was predicting, but in the end he let it slip that the Shock Doctrine approach was exactly what they were aiming for.

7. Shock Doctrine is absolutely correct...

I was thinking about this just yesterday. The Rethugs are so cold and callous that they will resort to anything to get their way, and they are using the Shock Doctrine ever more often.

Why? Simple... because they can and they are getting away with it. It works almost every time. Why try to convince the American people that your lies are the truth when all you have to do is just "scare the shit out of them". All the Thugs have to do is just make the public think that if we don't go along with their nefarious schemes we will surely die. Quite simple, and quite effective. :grr:

10. Exactly. This was all theater from the very start, months ago, even
before the tax cut extension 'compromise'.

12. Stewart fucking CRUSHES Obama on this. Dead on.
Especially the part with the reporter who asked him about what EVERY FUCKING PERSON HERE (minus certain shills of course, you know who they are) knew the GOP was going to do when he approved the Bush Tax Cuts without demanding a debt ceiling deal.
