Arguing about the minutia of the debt ceiling deal is what is going to kill us.
Edited on Tue Aug-02-11 10:07 AM by Javaman
There was no need for a deal at all.

We should be angry that we were so brainwashed into thinking that a deal had to be made when none, zero, zilch was required.

But alas, we now will get mired down in bullshit, when the whole thing was nothing more than political theater to begin with.

And so, here we are: arguing over who screws who via the cuts and not realizing that we all just got screwed.

3. It's not about the debt-ceiling at all.
Edited on Tue Aug-02-11 10:08 AM by dawg
It's about the rightward tilt of this President, in both his actions and rhetoric. The debt-ceiling deal was not the beginning, nor will it be the end of this.

We (fringe leftists, that is) are marginalized.

And we thought we were the base. :(

5. Yes, instead of discussing policy and actual policy mechanisms
we should all be yelling and screaming about how awful everything is. Oh, and calling each other names. That's also a good use of our time.

Thanks, my man!

8. Um, isn't that your OP?
I'm saying we should discuss policy in the "minutia," discuss big picture, discuss everything. You're saying "stop with the details! let's just be MAAAAAD!"

Your OP is silly in that respect.

9. no, my post is about getting angry about the plan itself
Edited on Tue Aug-02-11 10:27 AM by Javaman
and not getting lost in the details, but sadly, you had to have that spelled out to you.

There was no deal required. we were brainwashed and lead around by the nose into thinking one had to be made.

11. LOL
right, get lost in the details now, when the deal wasn't required in the first place.

but then again, we are stuck with this gigantic pile of bullshit, so getting lost in the details is our last resort to save our sanity when we still have zero control or say in those same details.

In other words, welcome to the middle, lower and poor class where our word or opinion means nothing to those in power.

12. I'm not advocating "getting lost" in anything
Examine the bill in its larger social context? Yes.
Examine the bill in its details? Yes.
Examine whether and why there even should have been a bill? Yes.

I'm for all of that discussion. It's surprising that you're not.

I refer to my original point. There should have never been a bill in the first place.

Which makes your power point slugs just another example of getting lost in political kabuki theater.

16. Let's see how much you want to discuss the policy that the Super Congress delivers.
I can't wait to see what you all come up with when the cuts are pushed through. It'll likely be "nuanced" emphasis on how the cuts that are pushed through are necessary--like the excuses for the cuts in Medicare and how they "only" affect providers.
