American Select: Wall Street-Backed Third Party Flogs Fake Democracy
http://smirkingchimp.com/thread/ted-rall/37584/american-select-wall-street-backed-third-party-flogs-fake-democracy

For "1984 Orwell conjured up a one-party state so powerful and pervasive that it was forced to create a phony "resistance" movement led by a fiction-within-a-fiction, Emmanuel Goldstein.

This past Sunday's New York Times op/ed column by Thomas Friedman, the hackiest hack in American mediadom, presents a Goldstein for America 2012: a third party whose candidate would purportedly be chosen by we, the people. "Thanks to a quiet political start-up that is now ready to show its hand," writes Friedman, "a viable, centrist, third presidential ticket, elected by an Internet convention, is going to emerge in 2012."

Amend that: rather than being chosen by we the people, whose ideologies span the gamut, this candidate would be picked by a tiny segment of centrists, i.e. the fraction of the electorate whose ideology falls between the Democratic and Republican parties.

Alas, Friedman continues. He always does.

2. Americans when you hear Centrist, be afraid, be very afraid.
First off, we have learned in a very painful way a
Centrist has no core values. They are interested
in what works. So far what works means from the
Right's perspective.

Centrist means Center of Republican Party. Throwing
Democracy to the wind, Ignore anything or anyone form
the Left Perspective.

Instead of holding the Center between the two parties
Centrist are operating within Republican Party Playing
Field. Have no moral compass the RWers just pull them
farther right.

People like Friedman and those trying to find us a President
are suffering an old-fashioned notion. Put a likeable
President in and the Congress can screw them and no one
will know the better.

Centrist--Be afraid, be very afraid. Center of the
road is inhabited with roadkill and yellow lines.
You know what they say about yellow lines.

IF it's a true "Internet primary" then whose to say that somebody like Bernie Sanders couldn't win it? :) And WHEN (not if) they threw out Bernie, EVERYBODY would know where they stand. That is with the white lines and armadillos.

Secondly, anything that splits the Republicans would make it easier to put together a Progressive Labor Party for the rest of us, focused on economic populism. Split the Republicans into proto fascists and country clubbers and take out a few of the DINOs in the Dem Party and we might win some elections for the positions that the New Silent Majority hold on ISSUES.
