I'm often in the Lion's Den battling with these types and I've NEVER seen a Lefty call him "Your Dear Leader", Nope, only RWers.

13. isn't it amazing how the same people who are so against support of
any real politician and call that sycophancy, worship at the altar of a pundit/comedian?

Of course Jon Stewart never has to deal with Congress, or anything. He can just run his idiot mouth off. He's not even funny.

40. This is a strange correlation you're trying to draw.
People who are accused of being sycophants for, say, President Obama, tend to make excuses for things he does. They support the man, even when he appears not to be working towards his stated goals (stated goals that earned him the votes of those present critics).

Jon Stewart is an entertainer. If people express support for him, it's because he's saying something they agree with.

They're completely different things. I don't see why you're lumping them together.

74. he is the leader of the party, he is the one who can set the agenda
and speak to it, having his side follow. But he aligned his ideas and performance around the other side and look what we have. People are going to die from this. Death. Leaders are supposed to lead and Obama deserves the remark. He is the one that laid Medicare and SS on the table according to witnesses who were there. The Pigs didn't. He did. He deserves all the guff he is going to get for this. A leader leads no matter what the opposition is. There are too damned many of our side, almost all the constituent groups that comprise our party who are pissed off and who have been insulted by him and his staff for us to stand lemming like and ignore it as we all follow him over the cliff. Give this shit sandwich six months and tell us what you think then. When the next line in the sand is drawn and he caves again then its a pattern even his most loyal supporters have to see. I agree with Stewart.

20. December 7th press conference on extending the Bush tax cuts...
yes some were questioning why raising the debt ceiling was not part of deal back in December.

:(

Marc Ambinder.

"Q Mr. President, thank you. How do these negotiations affect negotiations or talks with Republicans about raising the debt limit? Because it would seem that they have a significant amount of leverage over the White House now, going in. Was there ever any attempt by the White House to include raising the debt limit as a part of this package?

THE PRESIDENT: When you say it would seem they’ll have a significant amount of leverage over the White House, what do you mean?

Q Just in the sense that they’ll say essentially we’re not going to raise the -- we’re not going to agree to it unless the White House is able to or willing to agree to significant spending cuts across the board that probably go deeper and further than what you’re willing to do. I mean, what leverage would you have --

THE PRESIDENT: Look, here’s my expectation -- and I’ll take John Boehner at his word -- that nobody, Democrat or Republican, is willing to see the full faith and credit of the United States government collapse, that that would not be a good thing to happen.
And so I think that there will be significant discussions about the debt limit vote. That’s something that nobody ever likes to vote on. But once John Boehner is sworn in as Speaker, then he’s going to have responsibilities to govern. You can’t just stand on the sidelines and be a bomb thrower.

And so my expectation is, is that we will have tough negotiations around the budget, but that ultimately we can arrive at a position that is keeping the government open, keeping Social Security checks going out, keeping veterans services being provided, but at the same time is prudent when it comes to taxpayer dollars..."

35. "...there was a moment when Democrats did have the leverage: December 2010...
The election was over. Nancy Pelosi was still speaker of the House. Harry Reid still had 59 Democrats in the Senate. The Bush tax cuts were expiring. And Democrats had a perfectly popular and intuitive position: Extend the cuts for the middle class but, in a time of deficits and sacrifice, sunset the cuts for the rich.

...But there was one thing the deal didn’t include, that many observers -- myself included -- said should have been there: an increase in the debt ceiling.

It seemed to fit. The deal was going to increase the deficit by almost a trillion dollars, so it was going to accelerate our collision with the debt ceiling. It was passed by an outgoing Congress, and it’s always easier for retiring legislators to take tough votes than it is for newly elected legislators to take them. And it would have headed off the awful choice that Democrats face this year: deep, sharp cuts that will slow the recovery, or a debt crisis that could plunge us back into recession..."

39. Let ALL the tax cuts expire.
I don't understand this obsession with only letting taxes increase for those making over 250k. Just let ALL the tax cuts expire. THEN if you want to lower taxes for people making under a certain amount work on that. Dems will then have a stronger bargaining position.

It will have little to no effecton the economy. Clinton raised taxes in a recession. It doesn't matter.

expired. And then if they did not do that then raise the debt ceiling at the same time you adding to the debt, instead we get talk of them needing to have some responsibility.

42. Jon Stewart was brilliant, as usual.
I will be adding this clip to my file of "Keepers".

Everyone SHOULD watch this piece.
Especially notable was the section where that kid in the bow tie (Ambinder?, Harry Potter?) laid out EXACTLY what was going to happen. Watch that section closely, and see how nervous Obama was at having this exposed in DECEMBER!!!
I want THAT kid to run for President in 2012.

Thom Hartmann was playing the audio from that press conference yesterday afternoon.
It IS very damning,
and supports those who believe that this entire episode was a SET UP.

As Jon Stewart pointed out,
this is ALL you need to know:
No tax increases for the wealthy.
Massive spending cuts.

Who will STAND and FIGHT for THIS American Majority?
You will know them by their WORKS,
not by their speeches.

Directly Fresh way!

Can any of you do that?

This is so important because this video allows me to be gotten

I am saved! I can't thank him and Democratic Underground for
the link enough.

99. This is exactly why we need to dump Obama and find another Democrat to run in 2012
He looks absolutely foolish in this video and there is no sign that he's learned anything from the experience.
