Eugene Robinson is right.
The most troubling thing about this debt ceiling fight is that the teabag crowd pulls this hostage-taking crap every time they want something. And it works. So how do we put a stop to it? How do we keep these orcs or terrorists or whatever you want to call them, from being rewarded for their behavior? :banghead:

6. So how do we put a stop to it?
Invoking the 14th Amendment would have ended the debt ceiling as a weapon in the future, but I actually think that was also the reason the WH didnt want to use it.

In two years they'll want to slash more social programs, so keeping it alive so there can be yet another phony crisis serves a purpose.

7. Listen to Keith's special comment tonight
he dared used, over airwaves no less, the S word...

That is what needs to happen.

If we are to show our disgust, and the system don't work... well streets, strikes and other means are the only way.

13. VOTE.
Even if you aren't excited about who you're voting for. I don't know about you guys, but I'll take a Blue Dog over a Tea Bagger ANY day of the week. I've had to hold my nose and vote for a person who was more right than left, but the alternative was 20 times worse. Yes, it's sad it's come to this, but it's a start, and a tiny way to move forward rather than being shot backwards at warp speed.

17. agree
you have to split the issues out. We need to corner them somewhere where 10 of millions of people will not be hurt by their actions.

16. The Tea Party is taking credit for the hit
But the plan was concocted by the R's and the D's. They're all in on this together, pretending to represent the people, but on the side of corporations and nobody else.

When Gabby Giffords, after all she's been through, came in to vote for a bill that will ultimately reduce the amount of money being paid to senior citizens' doctors (Medicare), it stunned me. How could a person go through that kind of hell, her life saved by medical professionals, and then want to deny that same care to elderly people? I simply can't wrap my mind around it. I've been in tears all day.

If a life-shattering experience like that can't help someone feel compassion for others' suffering, how are we supposed to reach the hearts and minds of others in Congress? Telephone calls? Faxes? E-mails? Those elected officials don't care. If we took to the streets, we'd be arrested and they'd still ignore us.

This isn't flamebait, and I apologize if anyone's offended, because that's not my intention. This is just the heartbroken realization of someone who just realized that we are now owned by corporations, and there isn't a thing we can do about it.

18. You have seen what "fighting" gets
They will in fact run the economy off a cliff and claim it as a victory.

Stated more simply, what does the death penalty mean to someone with a bomb strapped to his chest who is going to a movie with no intent to see the closing credits....

The only answer is to keep them out of the theater. Vote them out, all of them.
