I just got a message from Move On. They are opposing the debt bill.
They asked me to call my representative and tell him not to vote for the bill. I don't know what to do. I don't like this bill, but isn't it too late realistically to get a clean bill to lift the debt limit before the deadline? I would appreciate feedback. Thanks!

1. Consider all the information you have, then make a decision.
That's about it really - do what feels right to YOU.

12. Move On - Last to the fire with a squirt gun.
Had they moved on this earlier, they might have made a difference. It is too late now.

14. I did decide to call.
The person who answered the phone said that a lot of people had called, expressing similar concerns. My Rep. is David Wu. I don't know how he will vote, but he is pretty liberal and since he is on the way out anyway he may decide to vote against it.

25. One of those persons that person talked to was me. I also called Wu's office...
... and provided what I'd hoped for many reasons that he should vote against it. She seemed very sympathetic to me. Didn't seem like she was defending Wu or taking a Wu position on things, perhaps not sure where she was going to wind up soon.

Evidently Wu didn't listen to us much as he voted yes in the end...

Look at my posts on the Oregon forum where we are talking about Wu there. We really need to get active to find a good progressive candidate to replace him in the coming October election. I think if we can replace a centrist like Wu who's not really done a lot for us, with someone that speaks a lot more with a progressive voice, perhaps that could also help send a message that reinforces what happened in NY-26 and hopefully what will happen a week from now in Wisconsin, that America is P'd off and is not going to take corporatists any more!

5. I second the above comment,
except for the fact that they're not listening to the peons. We can jam the phones/faxes/emails until hell freezes over, it.just.doesn't.matter.

7. I sent a note this morning
telling my representative, Zoe Lofgren, to please oppose this deal.

Let it default, invoke the 14th or not, if not, send notes to everyone on Social Security that the government can't pay this month and list every tea party member as the reason why.

10. I called mine
Tammy Baldwin, Madison, WI

Even though she is very liberal and I think she will vote for us, I think it's important to voice opposition to cuts in SS, medicare. and no tax increase to the rich? WTF

We could also stop the criminal wars.

Even if your rep is liberal, it is important to tell them and support them as they are being pressured by special interests.

and use the 14th Amendment.

19. President can raise the debt limit himself
I am calling all my representatives and leaders and anyone who can listen.

Democrats must say NO to the anti-Democratic President. We have taken all the bad deals we have to, and the President has plenty of ammunition to use the 14th Amendment, Emergency Powers, etc. to raise the debt limit himself, without anyone agreeing to this bad bill, sometimes called "a sausage" and sometimes called "a Satan sandwich".

Enough excuses.

Democrats are going to have to learn to say NO to this bad leader, who lurches us from one bad decision to another, till the Tea Party is literally wagging the dog all the way to the President of the United States.

Enough is enough.

As Representative Conyers said, we must educate the American people and apparently this President as well.

Call, write, scream to "just say no". That's all it takes.

20. I got the same e-mail from MoveOn, and already called my rep.
I told the aide who answered the phone I want Rep. Joe Baca to vote NO on this turkey. I said I won't be voting for any Democrat who supports it, and that I no longer support President Obama.

22. We are screwed either way. I can't tell you how many calls to the congress I
made and they sure didn't care what I had to say. Yet we are in a pickle my husband and I are on pensions and social security. We have to have our checks.

24. I'm sure someone will be along to call MoveOn "whores" soon.
That seems to be the insult du jour against any who dare suggest that this debt bill is a POS.
