The Debt Ceiling and DU - Join Me In Group Three
Seems like DU is divided into three general camps about the debt ceiling bill.

1. Those who don't like Obama and don't really care what the actual result of the bill will be as long as it gives them a reason to bash Obama. They've made up their minds about Obama and nothing he has done or will do will change their minds. They will choose to look for the worst possible outcome and most likely start threads predicting even worse outcomes.

2. Those who unequivocally support Obama and don't really care what the actual result of the bill will be as long as it gives them a reason to praise Obama. They've made up their minds about Obama and nothing he has done or will do will change their minds. They will choose to look for the best possible outcome or create impossible outcomes.

3. Those of us who will weight the debt bill on it's actual effect. Those of us who will not choose to base our opinions on the Op Ed pieces written specifically to inflame or pander to group 1 or group 2.

Come. Join me in group three.

7. I hope you're right
I've stayed away from debt ceiling threads for the most part. The more speculation something is causing on DU, the better to avoid it.

4. Yup. I'm still waiting to see what's actually in there.

Not much detail, so far, just general stuff. About the only thing that's spelled out in public is the debt ceiling increase.

I guess we'll have to wait to see the rest of the details.

I'm not that much about individual players. I'm more about transactional stuff.

5. I can't join in any of the three listed
You have drawn the lines in absolutes which do not describe my thoughts on the matter.

18. That may be true of DU, but there are very few people who
meet an absolutist description in real life.

6. Simplistic.

Only about five in group one and about two dozen in group three. You write this as if you were in a minority when it comes to seeking principle over personality. Follow the threads and the responses on DU and if you don't belong to group one or three, you will find that most here are in group three. But if you are in group one or two, you will think everyone here is out to get you. So why are you so sure that no one will rec you. Maybe they aren't in group one or two. Maybe they don't like the suggestion that everyone else is.

12. Nah - I've been critical of Obama
Overall I'd give his 2.5 years in office a B-.

I do, however, weigh his actions individually instead of deciding that based on any one action that he's a horrible president. This is one of those times that I think he managed to do pretty well given the situation. I don't know what the eventual outcome of the bill will be, and we all probably won't for at least another year, which is why I'm a group 3 person. With the debt bill there were two choices:

1. Say fuck it, bust the debt ceiling, and see what happens.
2. With a House controlled by the GOP and their collection of nutters and the Senate and White House controlled by Democrats, everyone was going to get a bill they could find something to hate in.

The fact that the far left and far right both hate this bill means I think in the long run it'll be okay.

You are, however, so far down the rabbit hole of group 1, that I don't expect you to agree.

11. I'm in group 3, as I suspect Obama is waiting to "explain" what was actually voted in.
I always have a feeling he has a hidden agenda and the Pugs aren't smart enough to see it until he `splains it to them...after the vote.

I voted for him for a good reason and I support him all the way. None of us could have endured the hateful pressure under which he has had to live/work. Give him some room.

13. If the supercommittee and its autocuts boobytrap is truly in the bill
it would be impossible to determine the bill's actual effect for at least months and maybe longer.

14. reminds me of Rumi-
"Out beyond ideas of right and wrong doing, there is a field. I will meet you there"

I'd like it if we could all meet there.
