Boner's comments on the deal reached tonite:

“Now listen, this isn’t the greatest deal in the world," he said, according to remarks his office sent out. "But it shows how much we’ve changed the terms of the debate in this town.”

He also sounded a note of vindication.

“There is nothing in this framework that violates our principles. It’s all spending cuts. The White House bid to raise taxes has been shut down," Boehner crowed. "And as I vowed back in May -- when everyone thought I was crazy for saying it -- every dollar of debt-limit increase will be matched by more than a dollar of spending cuts."

2. Two days ago no one would've thought that Boner is the one that would come out of this a winner.

6. Two days ago (OK, a week ago) Boehner was being praised for stopping Obama...
...from taking away peoples checks, etc, etc.

16. So you're going to take Boner's word for it that he won?
Like he's really going to come out and say "Well, I played chicken, and got run over."

3. Close tax loopholes = raise taxes. Bush tax cuts definitely expiring = tax hike shut down. Black...
...is white. Up is down. Good is bad. Right is wrong. War is peace.

4. The White House bid to raise taxes has NOT been shut down

The Bush tax cuts will still expire December 31, 2012.

When Speaker John BooHoo sobers up he might realize that :)

8. WOO FUCKING HOO!
In a year and a half there will be a victory, unless there is pressure to extend them!

Keep the faith, have hope!

9. He's talking about the tax loopholes that made him walk away the first time.
The problem for him is that those tax loopholes will be serious campaign fodder. He should've went with Obama's original plan.

5. It's positively fascinating - all the sudden Boner and Cantor fanboys here.
Suddenly, every word they say is credible, nigh, gospel.

10. Really - who is a fan of Boner's? I didn't see anyone praise him... I posted his
celebratory comments.

There is quite a difference.

12. It's a bid to derail discussion.
Who would have ever thought that drunken idiot could pull this off. It's mind boggling. And he's right about the terms of the debate but he didn't do it alone. Obama was right there next to him, speaking the same language.

15. And you believe Boehner, eh? Ezra Klein says Boehner is lying about the deal in order to sell it.
Edited on Mon Aug-01-11 12:51 AM by ClarkUSA
House Speaker John Boehner's (R-OH) office has released the PowerPoint he is using to persuade House Republicans to vote in favor of the emerging debt deal.

Ezra Klein tweets that he doesn't think the presentation is completely accurate: "Boehner's powerpoint misstates the deal to his members. 1) The baseline is not specified in the bill, and does not prevent taxes. 2) Boehner suggests that deficit reduction or BBA has to pass for Prez to get second debt increase. Not so. McConnell mechanism."

17. If Boehner doesn't crow about the deal like a Republican victory...
...it won't get enough votes in the House, or a filibuster will block the deal in the Senate, so for the sake of avoiding a national default, I guess we need for him to crow for a bit.

And at any rate, while the deal is far from insane enough to satisfy the zealot teabaggers, the deal sucks badly enough that it certainly isn't a Democratic victory.
