Somebody here has to explain
why it WOULDN'T be an unforgiveable betrayal for the rich not to have to pay any more taxes at all in the debt ceiling deal.

Also, shouldn't those who would defend that mean that the rich getting no tax hikes in this deal basically means the Bush Tax Cuts would survive forever? Is it too much to ask to get an admission of that?

Fine, the government will go on. But that can't be worth the massive cuts that will come of the deal Obama's going to push. By itself, keeping the government going isn't anything.

1. I thought letting the Bush tax cuts expire in 2012 was part of the deal.
That will raise everyone's taxes, including the rich.

2. You're assuming he'll stick with that.
He let the tax cuts survive for two more years in exchange for nothing that mattered in December.

4. For a few trivial weeks
Those people are now without it again. Those few weeks did them no good. Nothing that trivial is ever worth major concessions.

6. They just had the states cut UI instead, for instance in NY the Total is 80 weeks now, not 99
other states have it even worse.
