As in 1973, It's still: Damn the Economy, Full speed ahead with the wars.
In 1973 we had the oil boycott which caused extreme problems for our economy. Daily, there were reports of layoffs at Big Steel companies and car manufacturing companies. Guess what: National Security adviser and Secretary of State Henry Kissinger went to the leaders of Saudi Arabia and asked them for oil so that we could continue to fight the Vietnam War! It's almost as if we're war junkies willing to give up anything to keep the wars going.

Now as the Republican default economic crisis approaches our elite leaders are not even hinting at ending the foolish Bush wars. If our Democrats had just ended the wars after the 2006 elections or even after the 2008 elections, America and the Democratic party would be much better off.

1. It's not "almost as if", it just is. The MIC will sacrifice anything that threatens its growth.
