Are there 25 non-Democratic Reps in the House who would vote to raise
or eliminate the debt-ceiling at this point? Assuming that the Senate would go along and that Nancy keeps her hold on all her 193 stray cats, 25 someone sane and rational individuals voting with us could simply pass a new increase or eliminate the whole damn law.

No more "grand plan" - no cuts to essential services people are relying on to live (literally) - no threats to SS/Medicare - no pork or pet projects - just one clean bill raising it to XXX (past the elections) or striking the whole law from the books.

Then they can all go back to fighting over revenues/cuts/whatever will sound best in their sound-bytes for next year's campaign commercials.

So who are the most likely candidates that we might be able to recruit?

1. Not likelyh
The House "leadership" and the various Whips have a stranglehold on the Party.

The only bright spot that I see in your scenario is that since Boehner "outlawed" all earmarks (or pork if you prefer) he doesn't have anything to threaten defectors with anymore. Their only fear can come from either withholding of Republican Congressional Campaign Committee funding, corporate donations and, of course, the wrath of the teanderthals.

I thought there might be hope that Nancy could whip up a coalition but it doesn't look possible at the moment.

2. Well, that's the big question. There are some reports coming out this morning of a few Rs..
willing to take a look at the Reid plan and might vote for it. I think given the circumstances there will be enough.

5. Other than not having another vote in the middle of election season, I don't
like Reid's plan any better. Would much rather just see a clean bill and put this nonsense behind us - we've given the TeaIdiots enough rope to show the world how stupid they are, now it's past time to get back to the grown up business

3. That is the only position I agree with.
I will not participate in any more political shams with my vote. That's my 100% promise to my children. I'm watching this very closely.

4. I agree - go back to raising the ceiling only
take a chance that there are 25 sane Republican members of the house.
Is there any way Reid can force a vote on a clean bill and avoid a fucking filibuster?
