Budget cuts affecting non-profit food distributions
FORT MYERS -
State budget cuts are having a major impact on some of the people who need help most.

Thousands in Southwest Florida are in jeopardy of not getting a balanced, free meal because the companies that normally ship the food to our area for the needy can't do it anymore.

Belinda Harper, President of Wake Up America, Inc. says 100,000 of her meals come from Farm Share, a group based out of Homestead, which, until recently, supplied excess produce for free across the state.

"We were scheduled for weekly deliveries, which adds up to about 20% of our food," Harper says.

1. I heard that there either are problems now or will be in the near future.
If you can spare it, write an extra check to your local food bank. I did. They always need it, even during the so-called good times. I am sure they will be hurting.
