Fax to my repug congressman:
Rep. Bonner: 7/27/11

NO MORE BRINKSMANSHIP!

Last year Sen. Mitch McConnell said his primary goal was to make Pres. Obama a one term president. He reiterated his goal again this year. That’s not what he was elected to do and it‘s not what you were elected to do, but it sure looks like that’s what the Republican party is bound and determined to do, no matter what the cost to our country.

I’m a veteran, and will be 70 years old in a few weeks, and I no longer have any faith in, nor respect for, our nation’s congress. I can remember when there was a level of civility and even cordiality between the two parties. Now, to us, your constituents, it looks like a gutter fight.

Are you familiar with the term ‘FUBAR’?
Ask someone who has served in the military and they’ll tell you.
We, as a nation, are rapidly approaching that condition.

You’re in your fifth term in congress.
Surely in those nine years you’ve gained some clout.
You MUST talk some sense to your fellow Republicans.
Especially the Tea Party zealots.

I’m as serious as cancer.
You folks have got to reach down somewhere below all this partisan brawling and name calling and pull up some semblance of what’s right that I think most of us were born with.

Boehner’s rhetoric about ‘blank check’ is total BS, and you know it.
We all do.

If your party tries to put this cost cutting load on the backs of seniors there will be consequences in 2012, and I’m sure you know that.
No amount of slick TV commercials will put this on Obama or the Democrats.
We’re not as stupid as you think.

DO THE RIGHT THING. NOW.
Come to a compromise that increases taxes on wealthy corporations who pay little or no taxes and wealthy individuals who can well afford it.

7. Just a minor clarification
'Surely in those nine years you’ve gained some clout.'

He has been in office since 1985. He has caused most of the problems
that this country faces today
