40cm of rain in just one day - South Korea's worst floods
in over 100 years.

No climate change folks - moving along.

<snip>
At least 32 people have been killed in landslides in South Korea, as heavy rain deluged homes and caused chaos across northern areas of the country.

A landslide crushed a hotel at a mountain resort in Chuncheon, east of the capital, Seoul, killing at least 13 people - most of them students.

Among other major incidents, 16 people were killed when mud smashed into their homes from a mountain slope in Seoul.

Forecasters say more heavy rain is likely in the coming days.

4. Oh geez....you're right.
2.54 cm = 1 in. For someone not unfamiliar with these conversions, don't I feel stupid. :-(

3. Talking point problem.
While climate change seems certain to be occurring and may well be the direct cause of this deluge, there is a talking point anomaly that leaps out:

"Worst floods in over 100 years"

So 100 years ago (give or take) something this bad happened...before anthropogenic climate change was really under way.

The smoking gun can never be "worst in 100 -- or 500 -- years" it has to be something closer to "three 100-year floods in the last decade".
