Bullet trains collide in China killing hundreds, not dozens
The article here.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-pacific-14262276

More recent article.
http://english.cntv.cn/20110724/103668.shtml

Summary goes like this, a couple of the first generation bullet trains collided due to a malfunction being blamed on lightning.
First reports were that dozens were killed. The press conference going on in the background just indicated that more like 200 people were killed.

This wasn't the newest bullet train that corporate media didn't talk much about a couple months ago when it was unveiled.

2. I imply nothing but facts. This is not a politically motivated post.

I very much support building high speed rail networks in the US.

5. The "killing hundreds" juxtaposed with "killing dozens" made it seem as if it might,
since we have been reminded here at DU that we and the media and most of America are supposedly politically incorrect in our concern and sympathy for disasters or the degree of that sympathy and concern.

6. I only mentioned that because at this time the articles I find list death counts of 35 or less.
I was watching a press conference with the most up to date information.

Forgive me if it sounded like fox "news" or insensitive.

9. Sorry, I had only heard of the crash and not death toll numbers. I understand your post now.
The other stuff was still fresh in my mind.

7. I personally appreciated the update. Last night it was a smaller death toll.
Tragedy no matter how many souls were lost.

8. Thanks for updating us on this
horrible tragedy in China which has killed as many as a large jet crash.

At least it was an act of God, rather than an act of man.

13. Brooklynite is correct
The death toll is still in the "dozens," i.e., 35--about three dozen. The injury toll is in the hundreds.
