It is amazing what incredibly stupid politicians Republicans are
You know, they have a great opportunity to not only do the country some great good but also to enhance their own reputation after the debacle that was George W. Bush. If they would throw their Tea Party wing to the dogs and find themselves some Eisenhower style Republicans they could do both themselves and the country some good. They have a Democratic President who will listen to them and if what they come up with has any merit at all he will go along with it. It is nothing short of an incredible display of stupidity that they do not take advantage of it and promote reasonable conservative values while recognizing the importance of investing in the future. There is no reason why national high speed rail could no do for the first half of this century what the Interstate system did for the second half of the last one - and it could use the same rights of way. They could promote individual savings and, to revamp an old Republican ideal, they could actually promote environmental safeguards and preservation of our natural wonders. They are fools not to do it, and they haven't had a better opportunity in a lifetime. So after surveying this the only conclusion I can come to is that they are incredibly stupid politicians.

1. Remember this is the same party whose President said after
9/11 just go back to shopping....

They are very simple minded and short sighted.

2. Their actions are calculated and deliberate: Stupid is an excuse!
The republicans are not stupid. They have the strategy which they have been executing for over 30 years to establish a single party RULE in the US and at the state levels. They have invested a lot of time and money in their path to absolute power across the nation. They demonized the poor-made it permissible to hate those poor folk, contrary to all christian values: they demonized UNIONS making it possible to weaken worker's rights and workplace safety: they corrupted govt agencies with incompetence-remember BROWNIE at FEMA. They corrupted our justice system: Look at the SCOTUS and the local judges in WI. There is no judge more incompetent and unfit for office than Prosser, but he is still a sitting judge. The repugs de-regulated WALL STREET and set the robbers barons free to ravage the citizenry and savage the economy. They corrupted the FCC with political hacks like Michael Powell who gave Murdogs free reign to expand and poison the american public airwaves. There is nothing stupid about the repug strategy to rule not govern the US.

4. You must have read the book "Winner Take All Politics.
It describes exactly how we arrived at the current problems after more than 30 years of Republican strategy. Every person on DU should read this book.
