You know, they have a great opportunity to not only do the country some great good but also to enhance their own reputation after the debacle that was George W. Bush. If they would throw their Tea Party wing to the dogs and find themselves some Eisenhower style Republicans they could do both themselves and the country some good. They have a Democratic President who will listen to them and if what they come up with has any merit at all he will go along with it. It is nothing short of an incredible display of stupidity that they do not take advantage of it and promote reasonable conservative values while recognizing the importance of investing in the future. There is no reason why national high speed rail could no do for the first half of this century what the Interstate system did for the second half of the last one - and it could use the same rights of way. They could promote individual savings and, to revamp an old Republican ideal, they could actually promote environmental safeguards and preservation of our natural wonders. They are fools not to do it, and they haven't had a better opportunity in a lifetime. So after surveying this the only conclusion I can come to is that they are incredibly stupid politicians.
