on the one hand, this comes as no surprise; on the other hand, damn, what a shame. she sure could sing like nobody's business.

1. Weird coincidence
Maybe that's about as long as a human body can take an extreme lifestyle.

2. I honestly thought she was in her 40's.
It's a waste, not on a Hendrix level, but still a waste of talent.

5. you can find an amazing kid playing amazing rock, but
amy winehouse sang the kind of music you have to have lived a lot to sing. you just don't find kids who can really sing that kind of music, certainly not at her level.

It's a bad comparison, sorry.

8. Perhaps she should have gone to rehab....
I lost years of my life to substance abuse.

She obviously, from all the reports, had a substabtial substance abuse problem.

Maybe she just gave up and let her drug of choice wash over her.

Rehab works, but only if you really want it.

10. I know, I know . . .
. . . It's astrology which is not really science . . . but 27 is when a lot of people are beginning their Saturn return. A tumultuous time, to say the least. Mix in drugs and alcohol and fame and you have a bad combination.

14. Well yeah, I'm pretty sure that's going to be the understatement of the day -
"It's astrology which is not really science" ...... If we could come back down to logic and reason on this planet for a minute, we don't really have to try very hard to find more plausible explanations.

Many of these persons had reached a place in their career where they had too much money for their own good. Like gasoline on a fire that can never get enough gasoline.

Many of these persons had reached a place in their careers where they didn't have to put up with anyone who wasn't willing to kiss their ass, tell them they were phenomenal and here - have another hit, you deserve it.

Many of these people were fed by egos that led them to believe they were all but indestructible.

A long history of serious drug abuse WILL damage the development of the brain, add to this the biological fact that for most people the brain does not reach a complete state of maturity until between 20 and 30 years of age and you are setting the stage for a human who really doesn't have a good grasp of what mortality truly is, let alone possess the ability to apply that concept to themselves. Especially when you factor in the aforementioned circumstances as well.

This age range presents a kind of perfect storm of dangerous factors to young and famous addicts. Many others die a little to the left or right of 27 as well. I think if one bothered to build a scatter-plot, we would find there's nothing "spooky" or "super-natural" about it. Just some talented young people who rolled the dice until the odds came up against them.

Chris Farley 33
Hank Williams 29
Heath Ledger 28
Sid Vicious 21
River Phoenix 23
Shannon Hoon 28
Andy Gibb 30

12. I cannot say that I have ever heard a single Amy song.
Thankfully, Cobain was sued for ripping off the astonishingly superior band Killing Joke's riff from "80s".

The rest of them are genius. I'm not sure that Amy should be placed among them. But I'm just old and have never ever heard one of her songs, whereas Hendrix and others music speaks for itself and changed the world.

Even though it isn't surprising given her struggle with her addiction, it was still shocking news. It's a shame :(
