2. That's why everyone is screened. There are no identifying

characteristics for people capable of extreme violence and terrorism. I know that I am not a terrorist or a violent person. Nobody else knows that about me. So, when I go to the airport, I line up for the security screening without complaint. I know nothing about any of my fellow passengers. I want them to be screened, as well.

Are the particular techniques being used appropriate? I don't know. I'm not an expert in such things. But, I have a plane to catch. A few minutes in the screening process is not that big a deal. See you at the departure gate.

Korean Methodists and African-American Mormons, however, will get body cavity searches. Gotta up the security (not to mention other things), but can't racially profile anybody in a group that's already produced one loony.

After 9/11 we flew from Rochester to Arizona. My blond, blue-eyed, then-atheist wife was pulled out of line three times for interviews, questions, or to have her carry-on luggage (and that of my then 2-year-old baby) hand searched. Couldn't search Muslims, had to search somebody.

Go figure.
