Bombings in Oslo, and the mass murder of children in Norway: The police arrested Anders Breivik, a right-wing blogger who admires Daniel Pipes and Pamela Geller.

And then I read this on Progressive Alaska:

Watching the international media on the web and TV change gears Friday, as information started to fasten to the fact that the worst terrorist act in Scandinavia since the 3rd Reich was perpetrated by a right-wing Christian zealot, was fascinating. This, rather than what Pam Geller, Steve Emerson, Daniel Pipes, Dennis Prager, David Horowitz, CNN, Fox News and many others were touting for hours as most likely an act of Muslim Jihad in a country that is way, way too liberal.

Whoa. The terrorist was an Islamophobe who took his inspiration from Geller and Pipes. Geller and Pipes had fed him with anti-Islamic rage and hatred. And when he murdered those kids, Geller and Pipes...

used the occasion to spread anti-Islamic hostility.

Let's get a hold of footage. Let's show everyone Daniel Pipes standing on TV blaming Muslims for the massacre he inspired.

Take a look at Pam Geller's recent blog entries hoping to inspire exactly this kind of action. It contains this gem:

But remember, jihad is not the problem. New York's 911, London's 7/7, Madrid's 3/11, Bali, Mumbai, Beslan, Moscow ......... is not the problem. "Islamophobia" is the problem. Repeat after me as you bury the dead, "Islamophobia is the probem, Islamophobia is the problem."

She was being sarcastic, but it turns out she was right: Islamophobia is the problem.

Repeat after her as you bury the dead -- Islamophobia is the problem.

1. Prediction:
by Monday, Fox will be blaming the terrorism on "bloggers." They'll pretend it comes from both sides of the aisle.

Ali Esbati is his name.

Sheesh, I hope that one good thing comes out of this once the dust settles. People wake the fuck up and realize crazy psychos are not exclusive to one ideology, and 99.9% of the people in between are not murderous basterds hell bent on mass atrocities. Muslims and Christians, Athiests and Agnostics, all have one goal in life and that is to live in peace and take care of our families. We need to stop getting caught up in the us versus them mentality everytime some nut decides to act out. It's too easy, thoughtless, and self-destructive.

Instead, we should do our best to try to learn from these events and take reasonable preventive measures in the future of course. But insulting and alienating entire swaths of people who are innocent of any crimes do nothing to further our goals to create a better world for our children. That's just primitive thinking and ought to remain in the history books.
