The Bill Maher Show was great!
I mean, poor Donna Brazile having to sit between the big biker guy with the mustache that looked like it was pouring out of each side of his mouth, and the nutty libertarian who refuses to call himself a Republican but has all the Republican soundbites memorized.

In one instance, the big biker guy, a Mayor from some town in PA says to the nutty libertarian that they "may have to take it outside"? Nothing like live television!

But, I must say, Donna Brazile held her own. :-)

1. it was interesting
my partner was waiting to see the first punch... I think the comment was "...you must feel good about yourself" or something to that effect... totally rude

4. Yeah...
I think that was a smart-ass comment by the "libertarian" when the biker guy said he was a mayor of this town. Indeed, interesting.

6. It was great that Bill in the New Rules segment mentioned Murdoch's horns !!!
Edited on Fri Jul-22-11 11:31 PM by Tx4obama
Every time I've seen that photo I've thought the same thing about the guy's shirt collar behind Murdoch.
Jon Stewart even had a photo up last night but he didn't mention the horns - I had got all excited thinking he would be he didn't!

8. The "big biker guy"...
...is 6-foot, 8-inch, 350-lb. John Fetterman, mayor of Braddock, Penn. He has a masters in public policy from Harvard and has a been a revolutionary leader in a small Rust Belt town fighting like hell against economic disaster for years.

The libertarian is Nick Gillespie, who has a doctorate in English, is the editor of Reasontv and held the same position at Reason magazine. He comes across as a self-satisfied poppinjay whose obvious dye job and penchant for cheesy black clothes bely a desire to feel himself "cool" when he's anything but.

Smug and arrogant, Gillespie spent his time tonight trying to talk over everyone at the table. Fetterman sat quietly for most of the show and listened, content not to get in a shouting match with someone who showed his disdain for any opinion other than his own.

Fetterman began one of his few statements with the phrase, "I'm the mayor of one of the poorest towns in Pennsylvania..." at which point Gillespie rudely interjected "You must be proud." Fetterman merely glanced at the boor with the superiority complex and just said, "We can take this outside if you like."

Maher made a couple of disarming statements about " no one taking it outside" but the point had been made. Gillespie was being a jerk to everyone, his remark was completely uncalled for and it almost got him a knuckle sandwich. After that point, Fetterman sat silently, refusing to be a part of a dog and pony show.

Were Gillespie living in some more rural areas of the nation, he would be known as a guy "who needs to get his ass beat." He's a jerk.

11. I wish Fetterman had told him to STFU
Gillespie was a complete fucking jerk the whole show, never letting anybody get a word in edgewise. They must teach this tactic at right wing think tanks.

13. An ELITIST conservative vs a real american liberal ...
The MSM has allowed the right wing to pitch the up is down/down is up frame of limosine liberals vs true american conservatives, but this, while extreme is more accurate - just another psuedo intellectual elitist right winger vs a bare bones progressive.

I was ready to beat the puke bloody about two minutes into the panel - arrogant and self righteous and CONSTANTLY talking over people. Meanwhile, the smartest MFer in the group was barely able to get a word out.

And, yes, it was a VERY disparaging and ignorant statement in regard to Braddock from the puke - showing the TRUE mindset of the extreme right wing, and frankly, it would have been justified for the Mayor of the town to lay hands on him for the glib and ingornate statement about his town.

clearly recognizing the breed, quietly, but firmly, let Gillespie know that he had crossed a line and it was time to shut the fuck up.

10. I didn't like tonight's line-up.
I'm not a huge fan of Brazile. Fetterman could barely get a word in tonight. When he did, he didn't come across as very polished. Gillespie talked over everyone with half-truths. Nobody but Maher could call him on it, and he let several of Gillespie's whoppers go by until Bill realized the other two guests couldn't smack Gillespie down as well as he could. I did like it when Bill finally called him on his shit. As Thom Hartmann likes to point out, a Libertarian is just a Republican who's smoked pot.

14. It's not that Fetterman COULDN'T get a word in...
...with his intimidating physical presence, it would have been easy had he chosen that route. Instead, Fetterman displayed his intellect by quickly realizing the futility of it, so he minded his own business.

17. John Fetterman
John Fetterman did not look like he wanted to be there. He looked bored and rarely even smiled. The worst guest on a show like Bills. I was disappointed Bill did not mention Sean Hannity once. I thought he would at least talk about how Sean has talked and bitched about Maher all week on his show. What is up with that Bill? That was worth a segment on a show like yours where you could tell him to go fuck himself.
