10. He has to step down for that to happen.
The Republicans can't just decide they want to change their leader in the middle of the session.

It is not a wise decision as it then shows their party is in disarray.

...he's gone. Unless Dems vote for him on the floor.

Speaker is a parliamentary office, not a Constitutional one, except that there has to be one.

Resignation's traditional (Tower, Gingrich, Livingstone) but not required

14. Vote for House Speaker at the beginning of each session.
They don't get to call for another election. Boehner would have to voluntarily resign or die.
