Did you know the Canadian dollar is now worth more than our's?
When did this happen??? I just got back from a visit to Montreal, and their dollar is $1.03 to our dollar!! Not too long ago, they were .65 cents our dollar, and then .85 cents. What does this tell you about our nation??
I did know that our dollar had crashed against the Euro, because I used to import French antiques for resale here, and when I started, our dollar was worth about 95 euros. Now, the euro is about $1.45. We have been crashing, and most insular Americans who don't pay attention don't even realize it. Scary stuff.

1. Look at the "Trade Deficit" not the National Debt for your answer
Every $2 per day labor country is flooded with dollars right now

Guess the "Free Traders" forgot to mention that as a possible consequence of the lopsided Free Trade policies they promote

3. And that means that our export wheat sales will outdo theirs
A cheap dollar is great for folks who export their products, Farmers come immediately to mind.

8. And that means that not only will we sell more wheat but that the price will be higher
Canada is suffering the same drought that we are. The point is that our wheat is cheaper because of the weakened dollar. That works to the advantage of all of our exporting sectors, which includes heavy manufacturing.

20. Geezz - There is No More Heavy Manufacturing in America
Its ALL be outsourced

Fucking Washington stood by and touted "Retraining" when all the steel mills closed down during the Clinton era. Bush cited the "Ownership Society" as the Off Shore Tax Exemptions he created open the flood gates with tax incentives to ship whole factories to China

What is left ???????????????

South Bend, Snap On Tools, I can fill an entire forum with the list of Manufacturing plants that were "UnBolted" from the production floor and shipped "Lock-Stock-and Barrel" to China - 43,000 manufacturing plants

5. Been That Way For A While Now
I've been up there 5 times in the last 16 months. The lowest it was when i was there was 1 to 1.

I'm pretty sure it's been equal, plus or minus a nickel for a few years.

11. You only get 78 yen per dollar.
Four years ago when I was last in Japan, it was about 120 per dollar. At this rate, I'll never be able to afford to go back.

12. Since the beginning of this year; there was period from Oct 2007 to Jun 2008 too
http://www.oanda.com/currency/historical-rates/ (change the timespan to 5 years, and the other currency to Canadian $)
From Oct 08 to Aug 09 the US dollar was worth more than $1.10 Canadian, because all the speculators ran to the USD for safety when the banks fucked up. Apart from that, it's been less than $1.10 Canadian since June 2007.

Here is a site where you can look at five year chart of exchange rates and see the actual trading figures. If you are wishing to reach large conclusions, actual figures are better than recalling 'not too long ago' and such. Canadian dollar has not been at 65 cents for a hell of a long time. Long time.

18. Thank you for the link. Yes, I know it has not been
at 65 cents for a long time, but I live near Canada, and people here used to go there for good deals 3 to 4 years ago, if I remember correctly. Last time I was there was two years ago, and it was still not more than our dollar.

assumed we were still worth a tad more. So I took a very small bath on the deal.
