5. 92 with 66% humidity here in SE Connecticut.
This day is going to be hell. Lots of us here don't have AC.

7. (Memo to Self: Scratch "chicken parm sandwich" from today's lunch menu...)
I've already scratched everything "warm" from my diet recently.

3. Yes, the summer of 1980
It was godawful hot, and it lasted all summer. It got so bad here that it burned the humidity away, just leaving us with heat, heat and a wind like a breeze out of blast furnace.

4. I thought it was 34 states
The other aspect is the length of the spell. When it finally breaks here in Iowa we will have had close to 2 straight weeks.
I have seen many a hot day, but 4 or 5 days at a time.
We used to average under 10 days a summer over 90. We will have had that in 2 weeks easily to go with the 10 we have already had.

Remember last year Russia and China burned up? Guess it is our turn.

6. same in Indiana - used to be a summer storm would break the spell
followed by at least a few days at lower temps. The duration is what is different. I would *almost* long for the week under a sheet of inches thick ice that we had this past winter. Almost, but not quite.

8. Pittsburgh, PA here
Last night I got home at 11 pm. Heat index was still 93 degrees. It was ridiculously sticky and hot outside. It's currently 92 outside right now, and it's not even 9 am yet. Luckily, it seems like this is going to finally start passing over us tomorrow.

12. Sure. A number of them.

2006 is the most recent that I can think of. Right around this same time of year IIRC.

On edit - yes, it was the same time of year and a couple hundred people died. So far it's a couple dozen this year.

13. I Heard On The Weather Channel, That The Answer Is Yes
The guy said it was a 1 or 2 time per decade thing. Now, don't get me wrong. I accept global warming as an inevitable outcome of combution of massive amounts of fuel. But, this isn't a "never happens" event.

Now, if we have 4 or 5 of these in a decade, we might have something to really talk about.
