We all really do know it is coming. But it will still be a gut punch when it is official.

2. Indeed. Voters need some serious soul searching.
Hot rhetoric or pretty faces is masking something very troubling.

It's a mess.

I can hardly wait to hear the excuses.

In the meantime, I'm wondering what options the rest of us have.

19. He'll probably do 75% of the damage, and O-cons will say SEE! You EXAGGERATED!
They're a useless, reactionary lot. The only thing worse than an enemy is a loyal opposition.

4. Then the question is can the deal make it through Congress
Edited on Thu Jul-21-11 04:07 PM by ThomWV
Boner apparently has no power, or at least not enough. Pelosi has been pushed more or less out of the picture but could still be a giant player. Harry might grow a pair, he's hinted at it, and the human turtle seems to be having trouble herding the cats. There may be hope yet.

20. Of course it can. The people screamed about the bail out, too,
and that sailed through with no strings.

5. But by then it will be: "It's done. It's over. Look forward, not backwards."
When we anticipate it, we're accused of baseless speculation.

Then when it happens, it's the past we're dwelling on.

Lose-lose.

The very wealthy ought to think about that.

I've sold off a lot of posessions trying to survive this damn economy, but I haven't sold off my firearms, and I won't.

There's nothing so dangerous as people who have nothing left to lose...

11. Punch in the gut, followed nausea-inducing excuses.
It's going to happen. Period. And those stupid enough to defend it or explain how "he didn't have any choice" are brain-dead time-sucks. Their response is as predictable as the 'Thugs at this point. And we have bigger problems than those fuck-wits.

Frankly, I don't believe there's anything "we" can do about it. The left has been marginalized. All that is left is the creamy, oozing center and the lunatic right. Or should I say, the lunatic right and their DINO enablers. The democratic party as I knew it no longer exists. Right now, there is no "we". Or the "we" I identify with is so amorphic and so totally under-represented that it's barely a "we" at all. Until our democrats actually grow a pair or a viable third party exists, there is no "we".

So fine. Nothing "we" can do about it.

Then what can I, as an individual, do to dampen the blow? I mean besides moving to Canada or New Zealand or Denmark or something?

15. I don't understand the 'left' in this debacle as I know average
Edited on Thu Jul-21-11 04:57 PM by tnlefty
repukes, not the elected ones, who don't want changes to the Big 3. Why the fuck they still vote repuke is beyond me especially when the Repuke Young Guns (most visible faces...Pence, Cantor and Ryan) were stating prior to the mid-terms that if repukes gained control of the house they were going after Soc. Sec. They were so vocal that Yertle the Turtle told them to knock it off.

I know recovering republicans who are by no means 'left' who are baffled that the President even put the Big 3 on the table. My mother is one of them and when this subject came up her comment was, "he's gonna piss off a lot more people than the liberals in his party".

I just don't get it.

edit: add the word off

17. Remember when Obama met with House Dems and Waxman
(I'm paraphrasing) asked him just tell us now if you are going to cave and Obama got in a huff? He knew then he was going to cave, oh excuse me, support his beloved Simpson Bowles commission plan.

30. Watch the pea under the cup, nobody knows where it goes - hocus pocus
from today's town hall:

"I know it's hard to keep up with the different plans, the press conferences, the back-and-forth between the parties," Obama says (give him credit -- he has had a couple of press conferences lately). But Obama says "it's not that complicated" -- the wars of the last decade contributed to the debt, and now there's "simply too much debt on America's credit card."

"Neither party is blameless for the decisions that led to this problem, but both parties have a responsibility to solve it," Obama says as the crowd claps. (They also clapped when he mentioned Bill Clinton.) (11:12 a.m.)

"We have never defaulted on out debt. We're not going to do it now," President Obama tells the kids at the University of Maryland.

Obama launches into more talking points: This is a "rare opportunity" for the parties to come together and cut spending, seniors shouldn't have to pay more in Medicare and students shouldn't have to pay more loans, and education and energy shouldn't be cut --- "just at a time when gas prices are killing people at the pump." (11:16 a.m.)
