Wow. Just looked up exchange rates online...
One Canadian Dollar is worth $1.04 US.

Shit I remember when people would say "One Canadian dollar, that's like eighty cents real money."

Shit, Republicans fucked us up good, didn't they?

2. Weak dollar, strong market for US exports...
...and expensive imports -- especially oil. Since we haven't got the guts to do a carbon tax, this'll have to do.

5. Canada's biggest trading partner is the US.
We have been keeping the dollar artificially low for a very long time, since it gives us a boost with our prime trading partner.

The CND $ has been worth at least par or a bit more for a long time.

11. I bought a buttload of CD$ back when it was about .75-.80/US$
Anticipating that I would be moving back to Canada. I left it in a savings account (yeah, there were better options, I know that now) in Toronto. Now that I am moving back to Canada within the next year, I'm pretty well set compared to if I had to exchange it now.

12. No
You can thank the Federal Reserve and banksters for accelerating the decline. That is, if you want someone to blame.

For the true underlying cause, look in the mirror and the person next to you. We are all responsible for perpetuating a corrupt system where money is holy and everything else is secondary. More important than taking care of your neighbor's most basic human needs or maintaining a clean natural environment.

Greed is required for the current economy to continue. It is merely a symptom, not the root cause. The decline is a natural progression. You can't sustain greed forever especially when resources are finite.

15. Yes, it's amazing...
I had to cut 2 checks at work this week for Canadian governmental agencies for yearly license fees, so I had reason to notice. I alway call them before I process the invoices and ask how much they want in USD; this year one was +$28 US and the other was +$20 US. That was several dollars higher than last year.
