For the true underlying cause, look in the mirror and the person next to you. We are all responsible for perpetuating a corrupt system where money is holy and everything else is secondary. I had to cut 2 checks at work this week for Canadian governmental agencies for yearly license fees, so I had reason to notice. I alway call them before I process the invoices and ask how much they want in USD; this year one was +$28 US and the other was +$20 US. That was several dollars higher than last year.
