REPORT: How CNN, MSNBC, And Fox Are Covering News Corp. Hacking Scandal
July 14, 2011 11:34 am ET — 64 Comments

News Corp.'s long-simmering phone-hacking scandal has reignited, throwing its global media empire into turmoil. As allegations of hacking into private citizens' voicemail increase, media and tabloid practices have been called into question. With a large and influential presence in the United States, News Corp. and its subsidiaries (including Fox News) should be under intense scrutiny in the American press. A Media Matters analysis has found great disparity in the amount of coverage given to the scandal by CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News.

Analysis: CNN Covered News Corp.'s Hacking Scandal In More Than 100 Segments

CNN And MSNBC Report On News Corp. Scandal More Than Twice As Often As Fox News. According to a Media Matters analysis*, in the nine days since the News Corp. phone-hacking scandal reignited, CNN reported on the developing story in 109 segments, MSNBC covered the story in 71 segments, and Fox News covered the story in 30 segments.

*Media Matters searched news transcripts provided by Factiva, TV Eyes and Snapstream for the terms "Dowler," "hacking," "News Corp." and "News of the World" between July 4 and July 13.

6. Not at all.
Fox is barely covering, surprise.

If things were "fair", I'm thinking MSNBC would have covered the story as much as CNN, but showed over a third fewer segments than CNN.

Considering how much Fox covered when Keith Obermann's campaign donations which got him fired, I would call that holding back when the screw is turned in the other direction.

7. bizarre that they wouldn't pile on the story that touches on and will sum upall the

major issues of our time - bought government, psyops media, PRIVACY, criminality at the tippy-top of these pillars of selfregulating capitalism, self-dealing, foreign influence in national elections, corrupt/able gov't from the PM to the coppers...massive coverup (this frikkin story broke in 2007 !!!) by all of the above,

and now MSNBC is in silent running mode withthis story from their most hated competitor???

all apparently true, and too weird.

10. CNN for more then a DECADE has been secretly waiting to pounce
on Foxnews for the way they have been treated by their supposed 'peers' at Fox. CAN'T WAIT! My friends and I are going to sit down and watch the show!
