5. Norquist logic
Don't fill the tank, that'll cost $45! Of course, when he runs out of gas, Grover then has to deal with the time and trouble of calling a tow truck to take him to the station, paying the $45 to gas up anyway, along with the cost of the tow. If he's lucky, he didn't damage the fuel system. If he's not lucky, he could be looking at a tidy outlay to fix that. So, rather then shell out $45 to fill his tank, Grover would prefer to run out of gas, incur an addition $800 in expenses for the tow and fixing his fuel system, and still pay to fill his tank. Not to mention the unpriced cost of his inconvenience, wasted time, and any missed appointments because he was so pig-headed.

Grover's an idiot, so I expect this kind of "logic" from his addled brain. What I don't understand is the credence he receives from people who know better. Anytime he shows his insipid mug in public, he should be greeted with taunts of "idiot" until he retreats again to his hidey hole.

7. Because his drown the government in a bathtub is logic resistant
the same way any other religion is. Believing that a being in the sky intervenes in human history and gave holy books to a slew of peoples is also devoid of logic. You either believe in it as DOGMA or you don't.

This is why using logic with these people does not work. And like any other dogmatically driven thinking, it does not matter what evidence to the contrary you present.

9. No it isn't
But don't let any facts get in the way of broad brush simplistic bashing of people of faith. It's a perfectly acceptable bigotry in some quarters.

10. You are telling me that Norquist thinking is NOT dogmatic?
It is not a slam... the comparison is valid. You either accept dogma or you don't... and logic does not enter into dogma.

That is where this is coming from.

For example, in Judaism a principle of faith is that there is only one god and no other gods before you. This is not logic, this is dogma. The same applies to Norquist's thinking... government is bad... no room for discussion. It is dogma. They are different sources of dogma, but dogma nonetheless.

18. Norquist & logic
I think Norquist's position is entirely logical, once you understand that his objective is to destroy the capacity of the goverment to regulate or prosecute various bankster schemes.

Considered objectively as a strategy, the whole hokum of the "Laffer Curve" that maximizing government revenue occurs by minimizing income tax rates is brilliant. You can make a flipchart or powerpoint slide that looks pretty impressive to anyone without mathematical skills ( that is, virtually all Americans excepting math teachers, engineers, scientists, and quants -- but the last get their paychecks from robber barons to start with ). Once successfully sold it reduces the income taxes on the rich, and has the staggering bonus benefit of starving the government of the funding it needs to police and regulate the financial sector.

Grover just wants to reduce government to the bare bones needed to defend/enforce corporate interests overseas, and privatize everything else. (In fact, he and his buddies have been remarkably successful at privatizing the overseas war bit.)

19. The laffer curve is a religious principle
No, it is not one from a formal organized religion, but it is as much dogma as there is only one god before you.
