This whole crisis has been manufactured by the GOP to force Democrats to do everything they want. Notice how they refuse to budge even as Obama makes unprecedented concessions. There is no requirement to reduce spending, raise revenue, etc in order to raise the debt ceiling and avoid default. They could simply raise the ceiling like they've done countless times. But not this time. They'd rather put a loaded shotgun to everyone's head and hold the entire country hostage in order to get what they want.

1. Sure they will be. Lets hope...
That it doesn't happen, but if it does the people remember it for a long, long time.

2. I don't think anyone here's going to be making the mistake.
But plenty of conservatives will make that mistake.

3. The US won't default. It is all political grandstanding.
They will play it out a little while longer.

8. The more I hear this, the more I feel like it's the summer of 1914.
I don't think they actually mean to default, except for the wackadoodles like Bachmann, who have no conception of the consequences of their actions, but that doesn't mean they won't blunder into it, anyway.

4. The US cannot default...The debt must be serviced.
Surely, you have heard the chatter regarding the 14th Amendment.

12. 14th Amendment
I have heard two opinions of the 14th Amendment, 1) we must keep going, more or less what I understand you to be saying, 2) debt would be paid, but nothing else, like paying the credit card before the light bill. Then of course it can be totally forgotten about, it seems people often like to forget about those pesky amendments when they make us do something we don't want to do, also by the time it makes it to the supreme court the damage would be done.

11. well then, the Dems better do something
or else they will be to blamed too. The dems were to prevent this by being an opposition party, yet the leadership has abdicated that duty, even gone along with many other policies that got us here, so they will share the blame. THAT'S why all of this is so infuriating for some us.
