<snip>The man told police they were drinking early Saturday when she asked him to show her how to fire his .45-caliber handgun. Police say they found a bullet-scarred tree in their back yard and spent shell casings on the ground.

The couple's home is near the apartment where Joseph Wells was shot. Wells was watching TV when a bullet came through a window and hit him in the head.

1. Morons abound. What a terrible shame some poor guy died
because they abound. Drunk morons with a pistol, too. Kind of the limit of stupidity, I think.

But, hey...until now, they had a right to own that pistol. I'm guessing they have lost that right now. Too bad a guy died before it happened.

2. Had a drunk neighbor few doors down trying to shoot a moth off the wall with a .38 when I was a kid
That incident left a lasting impression on me when it comes to guns and alcohol.

5. I've been around firearms since I was a kid. I still own my share.
I've seen more people with a beer in one hand and a pistol in the other than I care to remember. I don't stick around when that happens.

6. It's not the guns. It's the morons WITH the guns.
We haven't found a way to keep guns and morons apart, I'm afraid. More's the pity.

7. Not Buying It
Just got back from Japan - millions of people, day and night and felt safer than I feel in my local park.

11. Yup

I've been to Western Europe and Japan. I definitely felt much safer. They don't have nearly as many gun deaths as we do and guns are a lot harder to get in those countries, if you can get them at all.

Many people say the solution to the US gun problem is to arm everybody. Just another example of American insanity.

Meanwhile Americans continue to be gunned down in the streets.

14. I agree, the gun lobby has a flawed argument, but they yell it louder
than most.

10. Sound easy, but how do you define what makes up a moron?
There's the rub. Now, we know that the two in this article qualify, but how would we know beforehand?

What kind of regulations would work to identify morons, then deny them the right to own firearms? I can't think of any way to write that, to tell the truth.

12. I have proposed on numerous occasions some regulations that would stop it.
1.)Cash for guns programs.
2.)Guns would be required to be 48" long and painted bright yellow, manually loading.
3.)All guns would be required to be decommissioned
4.)Only certain ammunition would be allowed
5.) Very long prison terms and/or deportation for violations.

13. None of those regulations are possible, except, perhaps the
last one. I'm talking about real world stuff. We already have had cash for guns programs. They remove a few firearms from the populace, often disfunctional ones and worthless ones.

Sorry, but regulations that cannot be implemented are not worth discussing.

15. So I guess with regulations off the table then I guess we had all better prepare to get shot and die
If it were up to me I'd ban them all but recognizing some people refuse to learn archery and feel the need to shoot large game, the long rifle, just as our forefathers had envisioned, but painted safety yellow to further prevent it from being concealed, is my compromise.

All guns that do not conform to the size and color requirements would be required to be non working.
If caught with a working non-conforming firearm, you'd face 20 years or longer or be deported or both.
