Let us all recognize his historic achievements.
He took a projected surplus of $5 trillion dollars and turned it into a $11 trillion dollar debt. How did he do it?
First of all, he used his polished persuasiveness to convince the people that the money did not belong to the "government", it belonged to the people. And he gave it back to the people and borrowed whatever he needed to pay for his idea of government. He borrowed to give tax cuts. He borrowed to fight two wars. He borrowed to finance a Medicare drug program greatly benefitting insurance companies. All as he decimated the revenue stream needed for sensible government.
So he was able to accomplish what no other President was able to do. He brought this country to its knees. Just weeks before he left office, he and his Treasury Secretary came before the cameras to request $700 billion dollars with no questions asked, in order to keep the entire economic system from collapsing. He was going out with a bang!
So today, we still wallow in grief and anger from the exploits of George the Great. His followers became devout balanced budgeteers once George was gone. There was ne'er a whisper when he was destroying our nation. They must have thought that no one could tear it down to the point where it could not be brought back in a few months or a year? Even they underestimated the compassionate conservative, George W Bush.
So let's give credit where credit is due. Let us not overlook the historic work of Dubya as we fight and argue amongst ourselves about the huge debt and deficits. Put the little government's head under the water and don't let it up until it stops breathing. Little Bush Jr is smiling.
