A vote for a repubican just ain't gunna happen
No way.

No how.

No place.

No time.

So don't even *try* to go there.

Since most of us won't vote for a republican, and we are finding it increasingly difficult to support a Democrat who is selling us out bit by bit, piece by piece, now what?

Peas?

Pffft.

I gotcher peas.

Go for the rich ones. You know. The ones who have now given you a seat at their table.

Unlike us. Who only provided you the votes you needed as the price of that seat they gave you.

It just shut down any conversation between us. You can disagree with me all you wish. You do NOT get to be insulting.

27. Ya know, an apology for unintentionally insulting someone would get a better result
Rather than insisting that you have the perfect right to continue insulting just because you always do it.

39. Hey Dude, it is insulting.
His name was right there at the top of his post, why didn't you use it? Lazy? then your sentence would have worked OK by not using any name at all.

Calling people Dude was insulting and stupid in the sixties, it still is.

18. Don't be naive,dude.
If you can't see the big picture, I'm sorry, but if you want to expose your advirsary as the sniveling twit that he ( they) are, you can't telegraph your move.

At the ver least we should wait until there is something to be angry about before we, you know, get angry.

If it was some kind of Bluff in a 3-d poker game. It didn't work because it will always be on the table weather he puts it there or they do, we will always be coming back to that. It is you who is Naive, Madam

It was never going to be accepted. I can offer my house up in exchange for you giving me a unicorn and since it's never going to happen, my house is safe. The point has always been to make the republicans look as unreasonable as possible.

So Obama was using tricks, and gimmicks,so he never was a serious negotiator. Wow, why would anyone ever trust him now?

38. Not so much a "trick"...
as a strategy.

Fighting fire with fire, in a way.

Something many Democrats claim they want, since Republicans are so good at being sleazy weasels.

I believe he's calling their bluff and making them look silly and obstructive.

He HAS to say that Democrats are willing to make sacrifices and then require the same of Republicans because I believe he KNOWS there's no way in hell they're going to go for tax hikes (on the rich).

Then he can say, well look...we were willing to do "X" and "XX" and "XYZ" but they don't even want to give one stinking little inch. If there's a government shutdown, then it's not OUR fault.

And yes, it is like a chess game, IMO. He's betting that they won't want to sacrifice a Queen in return for two Bishops and a Knight.

23. yeah, i'll vote for Democrats until...
the progressives of the party and a third party are viable and agree to pool their support.

sort of like an agreement among Canadian liberals on the progressive side and New Democrats, but with an agreement not to undermine the most progressive candidate that can win.

but unless and until that happens i'm here.

but it's a bad idea to make me feel like i have no choice, not for decades at least.

28. If I don't vote I might as well vote for the opposition
Because that's one more vote against them that they don't have to count.

Therefore I always vote. And I always vote for the Democratic Party because the least worst is still better than the worst.

32. I used to follow that philosophy too. And may well do it again, but at what point . . . .
. . . . do we decide that BOTH sides have gone so far to the right that neither is tolerable?

Are we there yet?

I suspect that point is reached differently for different people.

We would do well not to ridicule these people. If things go as they seem to be going, we will all find ourselves with them again, over <<==== there. While the people we formerly supported are racing ====>> over there.

Unless, of course, you yourself are are on your way, happily heading ====>> that way.

35. I'm sorry that you took that to mean you. I didin't intend my post to be personal.
Edited on Tue Jul-12-11 07:28 AM by Stinky The Clown
I really am sorry if it came off that way. Honest. That wasn't my intent.

My point was that we could each arrive at that place, but that we each arrive there at different times and for different reasons.

We might well be a long way from it. Again, I'm sorry you took it that way.

On edit, I reread my post.

Yes, I can see why you took it personal. Honestly, that was unintentional, the words notwithstanding.

40. I reached that point in 2000.
The tipping point was when it became obvious that Supreme Court stole the election for he who shall not be named. How many Democrats stood up and protested that vote? And when it became obvious, though not widely publicized that the vote count was indeed won by Gore, the Republican agenda still went forward. Democrats did not unite to stop or slow it down.

One thing Republicans and Democrats have in common is that they know 90% of their parties registered voters will vote for their parties candidate. They have no need to give you anything when they know they have your vote anyway. Too many people settle for the lesser of two evils.

I am a registered Independent and encourage all Liberal and Progressives to register as a Liberal or as an Independent.
Would the Democrats take notice if their ranks started to shrink? The ranks of the Independents would also start to lean left instead of center. I believe a million voters changing their affiliation could have a profound effect on who the Democratic party listens to.

Do I still end up voting for the Democrat? Yes most of the time, and I will never vote for a Republican, I truly believe the Republicans do not care if they destroy this country if that's what it takes for them to make money. I will vote for the Democrat on a third party line if possible, and it usually is in New York. If a Democrat that also runs on the Liberal line gets more votes as a Liberal than as a Democrat do you think that would send a message to him or her?
