"Let them eat peas"
Right about now, that probably would sound downright tasty to people whose cupboards are bare and the mailbox is full of bills they cannot pay:(

13. Hard decisions like how to cut our retirement and health care as not to bother the wealthy
with paying for their own party that they've already made gobs off of coming and going.

By telling those that aren't into selling out to eat their peas, he is telling those whose interests they are representing to do the same.

32. People are afraid of not having enough to eat.

My family barely does. I got sick and was put on disability. I was the breadwinner. Now we cannot pay our bills and run out of money for food every single month. The utilities were turned off three times last year, and the only way we can pay for them is to borrow MORE MONEY on whatever credit card offer we can find, leftover from when I had an income. Of course, since we can't pay for all of our bills as it is, borrowing more money is just digging a deeper hole. But we can't sell our house, because we owe more on it than it is worth now.

What do we do?

Eat our peas? Happy to, when we have them.

28. Who are you quoting in your OP title? Not Obama.
It is misleading to make up shit and then post it with quotation marks (unless you put your own name on the quote).

Excerpt from the press conference transcript:

THE PRESIDENT: I will not sign a 30-day or a 60-day or a 90-day extension. That is just not an acceptable approach. And if we think it’s going to be hard -- if we think it’s hard now, imagine how these guys are going to be thinking six months from now in the middle of election season where they’re all up. It’s not going to get easier. It’s going to get harder. So we might as well do it now -- pull off the Band-Aid; eat our peas. (Laughter.) Now is the time to do it. If not now, when?
