Angry Tea Party Stirring up GOP Revolt
Source: Newsmax

A significant faction of the tea party movement is prepared to revolt against any GOP deal to raise the debt ceiling – even if it is “revenue neutral” and cuts trillions from federal spending, grass-roots sources tell Newsmax.

For the most part, tea party leaders have coalesced around the “cut, cap, and balance” approach to raising the debt ceiling: Trillions in real spending cuts, a cap on how much federal spending can consume as a percent of GDP, and, ultimately, a balanced budget Tea Party, Debt Limit, John Boehner, Republican Partyamendment that would prevent the federal government from running up future deficits.

But the fractious tea party movement actually consists of thousands of loosely affiliated groups. They generally support constitutionally limited government, but don’t always agree on specific policies. And they are by no means united on whether the debt ceiling should be raised at all.

The leaders of at least one major tea party organization, Tea Party Patriots, are adamantly opposed to any deal to raise the debt ceiling, under virtually any circumstances. Doing so, they say, only invites more deficit spending.

The tea party is beyond fucking stupid. The GOP has purged most of their worthwhile members.

2. Profoundly Clueless
The Tea Party is profoundly clueless about the role of government in American life. They actually believe we can afford to go back to the rugged individualism of the 18th Century. I'm almost tempted to say they should be encouraged because they are far more of a problem to the Republicans than they are to the Democrats. However, the pressure they're putting on Boehner and McConnell is holding up a resolution of the debt ceiling mess.

Eventually they're going to become so obnoxious that they can't be ignored. I think they are more than clueless; they're also dishonest. They're for reducing the size of government to the extent that government programs advantage other people. Scratch a Tea Partier and you're likely to find somebody who's the final recipient of tax money. Rugged individualism, indeed.

Hands off my Medicare

3. Propaganda: source = Newsmax
Quoting a "significant faction" of the tea party...is there a Tea Party Significant Faction Newsletter or something? No, in fact the source seems to be a couple of people who say they lead the "Tea Party Patriots". Do you suppose these knuckleheads have been coached? How did they get in touch with the press (Newsmax, so not really 'the press')? Or did Newsmax go to them after being prompted to do so by one of Koch's minions?

This fabricated story does not deserve a moment of anyone's time, thoughts or emotion, except to confirm that, indeed, the Koch brothers are trying to destroy the America we have loved our whole lives.

Peace

Palin tells Hannity, “I read Newsmax,” the right-wing publisher bids for Newsweek, and who gets a fawning cover from the “money bleeding magazine”?
By Joe Romm on Jun 13, 2010 at 4:16 pm

~snip~
Coincidentally, also back in November, uber-conservative Sean Hannity gave Palin another chance to answer her flubbed Katie Couric question about where she gets her news, and she named Newsmax first...

23. So why does the press keep making heroes out of them?
That's what drives me crazy. You can get 10,000 people to show up for a march but, if they don't have tea bags stapled to their hats, the media won't cover it.

These teabaggers give the impression of knowing nothing whatsoever about America, its history, or its governance, not to mention science, economics, math, etc., etc. No wonder the know-nothing Bachmann is their champion!

13. Has anyone ever met a Teabagger that wasn't angry?
They seem to be in permanent anger mode.

I've also never met a Teabagger that didn't have a real heavy dose of ignorance on not only what the government does, but the Constitution they say they revere. If ignorance were bliss, these clowns should be dancing in the street.

Not only are they angry they require a mob mentality to survive. I suspect media including Fox has backed off some from stirring them up. The only thing more ignorant than your average teabagger is one elected to office.

19. In Texas, the "Tea Party Patriots" seem to consist of ONE GUY in Dallas.
He's the "Coordinator." And his own website is his Facebook page.

Oh, there are various websites for various towns listed, but I haven't found a single individual name on any of them yet.

I'd encourage all DUers to check their own state to see the fearsome millions and millions dozens who are holding the country hostage.

21. Well....this quote is interesting

"FreedomWorks chief Matt Kibbe has a more nuanced view. As much as he would prefer a more fundamental change in federal governance, he says, the GOP, with control of only one chamber of Congress, just doesn’t have the power it needs to impose its will. That’s why his organization is pushing for the more pragmatic cut, cap, and balance approach. The burden on Republicans is that they have to be bold because they don’t have credibility,” says Kibbe. “We don’t trust them to cut a good deal, so they have to stand firm."

22. I'm still convinced this has nothing to do with $$$$
There are no doubt some in the teabagger movement that are genuinely driven by concerns about taxes, deficits and debt but underneath the veneer is something more visceral and evil i fear.

When you look at the crowds at the teabagger events with their misspelled signs, etc. I see a mob that is driven to anger by a realization that America is no longer the lily-white Protestant steak and potatoes country they thought it was. While we have been a melting pot for much of our 200+ year history, the real amalgamation of new cultures, religions and ethnicities, especially those brought here by people that look different, has happened in the last 40-50 years. It may have been acceptable for someone who was white or just a little off-white to integrate their traditions, cuisine, etc. into the mainstream but these people really feel they have "lost their America".

I personally think this is what is driving their call to "take back America". They want to take it back from the first African-American President, the first Muslim member of Congress, the increasing presence of women in the House, Senate and Administration, etc.

28. Here is why the Tea Party has power. Close your eyes and
go back to the very first time we heard the word Tea Party.

At that time the Republican Party had just lost two elections
in a row. The Party was zilch. Can you remember Boehner
almost tearfully wailing. We lost our way. We did not
cut spending.

The grassroots Tea Party show up with groups across the
country. Dick Armeny and the Moneyed Libertarians
start working behind the scenes joining up with them.

Here is what is important: The Republicans had no chance
of winning anything as the Republican Party. They meet
with the Tea Party and sell them their souls if the Tea
Party will work with the Republicans in the last elections.
The Tea Party agreed to help Republicans but with the
THREAT OF FORMING A THIRD PARTY if the Republicans do not
do as Teaoartt wishes.

The Tea Party now controls the Republican Party and
the threat of forming a Third Party is there. Third
Party means the Republicans can never win an election
for years to come. I would not say the Tea Party is
stupid. They have the power.
