But I think most people who vote Republican aren't voting in their self-interest. They're being confused by smoke and mirrors into voting against their own interests.

(And this is true also for wealthy Democrats -- at least, when self-interest is defined narrowly, as opposed to the broader self-interest of being able to live in a fair, humane society.)
