How is that Day of Prayer for Rain working out, Governor Perry?

2. Here's a link to a very good article regarding the Texas drought...
Excerpt:

"The eight months from October 2010 through May 2011 have been the driest eight-month period on record for Texas since 1895. Rainfall in Austin was 38 percent of normal, and Wharton rainfall was 30 percent of normal."

http://www.lcra.org/water/drought/index.html

The map on the site is zoomable and you can move it about to see how the extreme drought conditions extend in the South all the way from Arizona into Georgia. It looks about as serious for Georgia as it does for Texas. I'm in Southwest Arkansas and it seems pretty awful here but I see it's not as bad as in Texas and further south than I am.

I love all those states. Got family and friends in all of them.

4. I see where Texas declared a disaster...
for nearly the whole state.

No snarkey comment here...make up your own.

I just hope they aren't asking for help from the hated Federal Government.

7. Why not
ask for help? We pay taxes just like every other state. Just because our idiot governor blabs off his mouth doesn't mean we don't deserve help. This isn't about politics, it's about the safety of citizens! Why should we be denied help for a natural disaster, regardless of the situation.

8. Welcome to DU
You'll realize quickly enough that there's a lot of geographical haters here. The South, and Texas/Florida in particular, usually bear the brunt of the bullshit

12. I'm sorry but pointing out the rather nasty views of the governor of the state is rather fitting
given his public stances against the Federal government. It's not geographical bashing to point that out.

29. Has nothing to do with the Gov
Perry is a first class asshat.

But if you'll read the thread, you'll see plenty of "let em suffer!" bullshit. People forget that no matter who is in running the show in Texas, it is a state made up of actual people, not just a single politician. Some of those people are even Democrats.

11. Your governor keeps talking of leaving. He goes on about how oppressive the
Federal government is. Although he seems to be just fine with it when he decides he needs it.

Hoisting such a hypocritical ass on his own petard seems to be fitting given the situation.

Yes, Perry is an idiot with his talk of seceding, but please remember, DU, that there are many good Texans who know and understand just that - - that Perry is an idiot! We're trying...

I just subscribed to the Hightower Lowdon, Jim's newsletter. There are plenty of common sense, good liberals in Texas who are fighting the knucklewalkers everyday. It's got to be sadder and harder to do it with out Ann Richards and Molly Ivins, though. I really miss those ladies.

I miss those ladies, too! They were REAL Texans in my humble opinion. Perry's a wanna be. He's never figured out the real "code" for being a true Texan.

We here in Tennessee have enough problems, what with our stupid RepubliCON legislature, we don't need another drought on top of it.
