Ed Schultz was suspended a week for calling Ingraham a "slut" on the air...
...but Halperin gets away with calling the President of the United States a "dick"?

Ed's apology was a lot more profuse and sincere. Halperin practically laughed through his apology.

MSNBC... be consistent!

5. I just sent MSNBC an e-mail and told them I expected the
entire "Morning Joe" team to be suspended for sitting there and allowing that.

6. Even worse -- The whole nation came down on NPR for a little off-the-cuff
(but very true) remark about the teabaggers...If something that minor caused NPR brass to get fired, then the same should apply here...

7. There Is A Difference...
Schultz is a host and promoted by the network...one of their stars. Halperin's a "contributor"...one of Joey's drinkie-drinkie buddies. Time will tell if he's suspended...and I hope he is. More important...Halperin is a senior editor of Time...a supposedly respectable news magazine. His flippant remarks that show disrespect for the President should compromise Halperin's status to be an objective editor and should step down from that position. If he wants to play pundit, then play pundit but his remarks have put a dark cloud over Time more than MSNBC. It also shows the true Halperin...a longtime right wing meatpuppet.

9. The answer is no. Nor should we.
Halperin is a smirking a*hole. His "apology" was not sincere. He was just mouthing the words.

22. Being polite and reserved is the way the wingnuts and the Tea Party dominate the conversation..
It's good when Democrats emulate their subdued and demure approach, if we keep doing it long enough we're sure to get noticed eventually.

16. So it's okay by you? Are you too young to remember when Republicans got "poutraged" when Bush 41 was
addressed as "Mr. Bush" instead of "President Bush"?

14. It was crude.
Was it sexist?

"Slut" is an attack against all women. Is "dick" an attack against all men?

Or is it a matter of not wanting the President attacked in crude terms on the airwaves?

Are the two equal in severity?

17. You actually need to ask? It's a matter of RESPECT. Such vulgarity has NEVER BEEN DONE BEFORE on TV,
Edited on Thu Jun-30-11 08:28 AM by WinkyDink
about ANYONE, let alone the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES.

The term is NOT ALLOWED in its obviously vulgar usage. (If you do not know it is a vulgarism and not simply "slang,", I'm bereft of further argument.)

20. No, of course it's vulgar.
It was the automatic comparison with an incident involving a sexist slur against all women that led me to ask the question. I think when you make that comparison, people will assume that you are suggesting the outrage was on the same level or for the same reasons, and they are very different reasons.

Why would Ed calling one particular woman a name be a slur to all women? :eyes:

27. Even if it is taken that way, political pundits call lobbyists political sluts all the time
I would not say Ed used it in the right context, but I didn't take offense as a woman because I didn't think he was calling out all women.

I think he took the political slut usage and tried to airbrush it to apply Laura Ingrahm to horrific effect.
