Breaking news Bachamann's gov't. handouts much bigger
Edited on Tue Jun-28-11 07:19 PM by senseandsensibility
than previously stated. This is breaking on MSNBC right now. Of course she stated yesterday that she did not receive any of the money. Now it seems she wasn't reporting everything. Edited to add that this was Michael Isakoff reporting on Last Word.

2. Looks like the Clinic received over $100,000 from Medicaid
Bachmann loves socialized medicine and got lots of Medicaid funds from 2005.

Is there any Medicaid fraud here?
Bwaaaaaaaaaaaah hahahahha

3. "Is there any Medicaid fraud here? " I sure hope so. I can't
bear the thought of having to see/hear her until the next election. Unless it's on an MSNBC show about convicts in prison.

12. I don't think she is stupid - as much as incredibly dangerous
If you read her wikipedia biography, it is clear that she and her husband are bright people. It is strange to think they started off as Democrats, working to elect Carter in 1976. What scares me is that she sounded like a Senator McCarthy imitation speaking of "unAmerican" people in the Congress. She is a demagogue.

21. They're not stupid, and they know how to exploit the stupid.
I don't believe half these born-agains when they start talking faith, either. Pure pandering, made easy by a compliant media.

10. Well you know, they took in 25 troubled teens (mostly girls)
I'm sure they needed counseling for which the Bachmanns billed the state. But we can't question the nobility of her motives in taking in 25 foster kids.

14. I would not touch that issue with a 10 foot poll
If they get any flack, you can bet that they will have some of the girls defending them with beautiful emotional stories of how they turned their lives around. (Remember, they control their own segment of the media.)

16. I had said here a couple of weeks ago that I would like to hear from some of the
foster kids, and was pretty much flamed to hell for it.

I understand that one of her own biological kids has nothing to do with her, I thought it would be interesting to hear what some of the foster children had to say about her.

18. I was coming from the other side
It is highly likely that the kids had mixed opinions. My point is there is likely at least one who really was helped. As to one kid having nothing to do with her - if true, that is really sad.

As to the anorexic girls, I would give her and her husband the benefit of the doubt - unless there was ample reason not to. It very well may be that in this part of her life she and her husband really did care for and help the kids.

or the nobility of taking $250,000 in farm subsidies.

foster kids (now adults). There were several people here that accused me of being a horrible low life for saying that. I was told that people who took in kids, did not do it for the money because there was no money to make- and that- they only ever did it with the noblest of intentions. People who posted on that thread went from my original post questioning Bachmanns motivations for fostering troubled teenaged girls to accusations that I had attacked all foster parents (this happened because I said that I know a lady who does do it for the money). Others said that I accused the Bachmanns of abusing the kids. I tell you, it was crazy. At one point I had to look up to my navigation bar to double check that I was really at DU!

I finally let it go and the thread died. Now there's information coming out that my suspicions about her motivations were not unfounded- I doubt any of those posters who thought I was the most horrible person in the entire world for saying what I said, will rethink their reactions to my OP.

7. Bachmann's husband got $137,000 in Medicaid funds
While Rep. Michelle Bachmann, R-Minn., has forcefully denounced the Medicaid program for swelling the "welfare rolls," the mental health clinic run by her husband has been collecting annual Medicaid payments totaling over $137,000 for the treatment of patients since 2005, according to new figures obtained by NBC News.

The previously unreported payments are on top of the $24,000 in federal and state funds that Bachmann & Associates, the clinic founded by Marcus Bachmann, a clinical therapist, received in recent years under a state grant to train its employees, state records show. The figures were provided to NBC News in response to a Freedom of Information request.

The clinic, based in Lake Elmo, Minn., describes itself on its website as offering "quality Christian counseling" for a large number of mental health problems ranging from "anger management" to addictions and eating disorders.

The $161,000 in payments from the Minnesota Department of Human Services to her husband's clinic appear to contradict some of Michelle Bachmann's public accounts this week when she was first asked about the extent to which her family has benefited from government aid. Contacted this afternoon, Alice Stewart, a spokeswoman for Bachmann, said the congresswoman was doing campaign events and was not immediately available for comment.

17. And there's this:
"...these were not the only government funds that Bachmann & Associates has received. The clinic also participates in managed-care plans that are reimbursed under a separate state-funded Minnesota Health Care program. But the state does not have any records of payment information to the individual clinics that participate."

So, Bachmann apparently does love socialized medicine after all. LOL

If I were a tea partier who've spent many months stomping my feet in protest over socialized medicine. I would feel betrayed by this tea partier poser. I would start calling her a communist tea party infiltrator. LOL

Everyone knows rethuglicans are liars and hypocrites by nature. So when one
gets caught in a lie, as happens often, no one gives it a second glance.

Just watch her get a free pass on this one.
