Vandalism mars Pride Parade: Tires cut on 51 floats

"The tires on openly gay state Rep. Kelly Cassidy's float were slashed, she said. Her first thought, she said, was an incredulous "Really?"

But then her thoughts shifted to Dr. Seuss' "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," in which the Grinch's theft of all the trappings of Christmas didn't stop the celebration.

She was uncertain whether her float would be repaired in time for the parade. If not, she said she would walk, not unlike the early parade participants decades ago.

"It doesn't have to be fancy," she said. "We're going to pick up our banner and we're going to show our pride.""
