AOL Headline: Trouble Brewing For Clarence Thomas
I believe we have crossed the Rubicon...for AOL to 'sneak' that into their little welcome screen means that there's trouble afoot.

Can of Coke, anyone?

3. Right...but for them to actually do so considering their history
IMO is significant. I'm a 'charter' AOL user and the number of times I've seen Rethug scandals unreported for weeks and weeks while Dem whispers were emblazoned as major headlines immediately used to make me cringe and scream at the monitor. It's good to see this make its way into the Web in this fashion for a change.

4. Oh, come on.
Edited on Sun Jun-26-11 07:02 AM by Chan790
We both know that this administration, even if they had Thomas guilty clear as day, would decline to prosecute or demand his resignation because they fear any political fight that might involve not being able to utterly capitulate. Doubly so if even one RW partisan might yell "witch hunt".

Edit: All this will come to naught.

9. I did. The realistic threat, at least, is the only way to make him leave. Indict Clarence Thomas
I want to watch him leave the Supreme Court, in handcuffs, if need be.

8. We're the party of taking stuff off the table and forever looking forward, it seems.
He needs to go. He should have been gone long ago along with his cronies who gave us the Citizens United decision. All 5 of them.

How can we expect the Supremes to make impartial and fair decisions when the Justice's themselves are tainted?

11. I'd like to see him forced to recuse himself on case after case
He should be under a microscope for every single case that comes before the court as to whether it could benefit him, his wife, or any of their regular patrons. And there should be demands for his recusal at every opportunity -- and loud cries of outrage if he refuses.

That would not only make him squirm but would cast a highly unwelcome spotlight on the people in our society who believe they can buy justice. I think after a few months of that, even his patrons would be ready to throw him off the bus because of how much attention he was drawing to things they would prefer to keep quiet.

In a society like ours, neither impeachment nor indictment is likely to get very far -- but bad publicity is priceless.

The Supreme court is being dishonored, and will (is) become untrustworthy. Jokes will be made with tilted scales and the lifting of blindfolds.

Except under a rigid form of fascism, this government and this Supreme court cannot afford to become the laughing stock it has now become. Once it is clear the Judicial system can no longer be trusted, laws will mean nothing. Once it is clear to everyone our justice system under Holder, is a system of five for the rich and none for the middleclass and poor, chaos will inevitably ensue. Folks just are not that stupid.

And that is what the string pullers fear most. They have built an extravagant, ostentatious, and obscenely pretentious bridge to nowhere but destroyed its foundations before they had begun. No trust, no foundation, no nothing, and that is the ignorant stupidity of this administration. It plundered and then forgot its foundations.

Too cute by half.

Non recoverable mistakes have been made by this admin's not prosecuting real and deadly crimes against this country and its constitution, blatant bank fraud and theft of treasury and blatant war crimes and theft of treasury piled high on top of the shredding of the constitution, the very foundations of this country.

Now this country is lost as we ever knew it; it's foundations crumbling before our eyes in tsunamis of unbridled greed and corruption.

Batten down the hatches folks and prepare for the coming revolution and pick a side.

The next decade will be ever more shocking.

Exactly so. What President Constitutional Law Prof. failed to do was APPLY THE LAW. We are no longer a nation of laws. We are a nation of a few rich and powerful men who get to do irrespective of the law. It is just going to take a little bit longer for the majority of people to figure this out and get really pissed off. It is coming. Mr. Obama can get in front of it or pay the political price.

And that's if the Republicans themselves are throwing them under a bus.

Thomas is extremely useful to people like AEI and the Koch brothers, but if his misdeeds start bringing unwanted attention to him, they'll get rid of him quick.

25. But of course!
The Republicans filibuster so many things, you know they'd shut down the Senate to all business (except the defense budget) until President Obama dropped support for the moderates he was originally looking at and nominated Monica Goodling, John Yoo or Alberto Gonzalez.

39. If Thomas were a "libbrul" (English=Democrat)
From Richard Viguerie to Tucker Carlson to the whole Foxsucker team, they'd be screaming for his impeachment,
which the Republican dominated House would have as their absolute number one priority.

As it is, a criminal indictment is about the only thing we can hope for, and although Eric Holder will be extremely
reluctant to issue an indictment for a sitting Supreme Court Justice (think of what the next Republican AG would do
to Steve Breyer, Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor in reprisal, and THEY don't wait for justification for such actions),
Thomas' actions may be too grievous to ignore, even for an AG reluctant to set a precedent by being the first to issue
such an indictment.
