College tuition going up 15-percent

LEE COUNTY, FL -
Tuition at Florida's eleven public universities will go up 15-percent for the 2011-2012 school year.

The Board of Governors voted in favor of a 7-percent increase in tuition, on top of the 8-percent increase ordered by the state legislature.

For in state students, that equals between $22 and $32 more per credit hour.

An in-state Florida Gulf Coast University student taking 30 credit hours next year would have to pay around $550 more in tuition.

Either we become indebted to the banks forever or education is priced out of the hands of the poor and middle class as loans and grants will no longer support the tuition rate increases.

This is part of class warfare.

4. 15% sounds big, but its only $55 more per class or $18.33 per credit.

Sadly more of the cost of publicly subsidized education is being pushed on to the students, but someone has to pay. In other states where they are afraid of funding through state allocation or raising tuition, they are starving the universities.
