How Tent Cities Are Revitalizing Sit-In Activism


Since citizens of the newly-founded township Walkerville, Wisconsin, created their own tent city in Madison's Capital Square to protest Scott Walker's budget problems, a spate of similar tent cities have sprouted up in protest across the nation. Because what is a more effective action than one that goes 24-7? Last week, in response to Walkerville, New York citizens founded Bloombergville outside Manhattan's City Hall, in order to protest his garbage city budget.

And as of this week, Walkerville is already seen as a success. Job Party reports from Wisconsin:

Going to Bloombergville in person made it that much easier to agree with David Swanson that the larger approach aligning young people and workers is “exactly right”.

Best of all, this is truly an organic movement, where real Americans are really inspiring each other to take action. With real help from social media too.

Moreover, this is even bigger than America, as young people all across Europe have taken to tent cities to protest. And all across the world, a new generation of leaders is undoubtedly being forged in the process.

1. K&R DC needs a sit-in too.

I wish we could bus in tent cities to DC so Representatives are forced to see the results of their policies. Hold cook outs and free medical clinics right there. Burst their bubble of comfort.

Have signs personally thanking Corporate Representatives by name.

They try to project their own shame onto people on the left ---> THEY SHOULD BE ASHAMED.
