ONLY IN THE WORLD-HERALD

She's used her experience to relate to alcoholics and addicts for years.

But an Omaha woman may not have wanted to add this to her testimonial.

Tanesha S. Gilreath, 35, was sentenced Wednesday to 15 to 30 months in prison for her eighth DUI.

Her job at the time of her drunken driving arrest: drug and alcohol counselor at a local treatment center.

For her seven previous DUIs, Gilreath had received some combination of probation and, at most, six months in jail.

Not this time.

FULL story at link.

2. Eighth??? Sorry, that's too many.
The third should be a mandatory one-year suspension of driving licence; the next after that, permanent revocation of licence. (And that's only the number of times she was caught; clearly not someone who can be trusted to operate a car responsibly.)

Cut

For his seventh DUI arrest, the former bank vice president pleaded no contest Wednesday to felony DUI in connection with a February morning rush-hour crash that severely injured another driver near 132nd and Leavenworth Streets.

Dahir, 36, of Omaha, will be sentenced June 29. He faces up to five years in prison.

On Feb. 15, Dahir had been awaiting sentencing for a previous DUI when he rear-ended a motorist near West Dodge Road and then drove wildly down 132nd Street, crossing the center line and striking an SUV driven by Steven Murray of Omaha.

Murray sat in the front row of the courtroom Wednesday and watched as Dahir entered his plea. The 48-year-old Murray suffered a broken left ankle, dislocated hip, fractured pelvis and a severe cut to his head. He is recovering after being hospitalized for three weeks.

End cut

Poor baby had to leave bank job his daddy gave him. He seems just smart enough to pass rehab and rejoin the party life.

6. Wonder how many times she would have gotten probation is she had been caught driving high?
My guess is 1 at most. And then only if her stash had been tiny.

8. Psychopathy* is a disease.
Some of them commit murder.

She's being punished for driving drunk, not for being an alcoholic.

*Now generally referred to as "antisocial personality disorder".

9. She's not in jail for being an alcoholic
She's in jail for driving while drunk.

Alcoholism is a disease.
DUI is a crime.

10. Treatment is Readily Available
There's all kinds of help available to alcoholics who want to stop drinking. However, motivation is the key. If the alcoholic wants to continue drinking, there's very little anyone can do to help. Opportunities for relapse abound! Yet many people do recover from alcoholism.
