Enough ... Increase taxes on the rich already ....
Lower them (slightly) for the poor and middle class, and raise them on the rich ....

Do it .... be done with it already ....

Enough with the moaning and gnashing of the teeth ....

7. That is true, but it is not insurmountable ....
The rich own it now, but they have to get reelected, and things arent looking so great for the GOP in the next cycle either ....

The Democrats lost the house .... The GOP can lose the house ...

It isn't a matter of what can be done NOW, but how to build the will in the people themselves ...

There is no doubt that taxes have been higher for the wealthy in the past decades, and they seemed to do pretty good then, which history bears out ....

The current narrative about taxes is a GOP deception .... WE need to remind fellow Democrats and Independents that reasonable taxation is necessary in order to maintain balance in government and the economy ...

We need to move forward and restore proper levels of taxation for those who benefit most .... Adam Smith agrees :

"The subjects of every state ought to contribute toward the support of the government, as nearly as possible, in proportion to their respective abilities; that is, in proportion to the revenue which they respectively enjoy under the protection of the state ....(As Henry Home (Lord Kames) has written, a goal of taxation should be to) 'remedy inequality of riches as much as possible, by relieving the poor and burdening the rich.'"
-- Adam Smith, Wealth Of Nations

3. if we had 60 Democrats like we used to, it could've been done. Nope.
It turns out there were too many right wing Democrats who wouldn't support such a move. When you don't have a functioning public financing mechanism for elections, of course the rich can gain an edge rather easily.

4. We could have just let the Bush tax cuts lapse
We wouldn't have needed any votes for that. We got so hung up on keeping the tiny cuts for the working class that we let the Rich keep the big cuts.

9. I agree ...
Even with the majority we 'enjoyed' .... Congress refused to allow tax fairness to get in the way of short term gain and long term malaise ....

I hear it more and more in my every day life: Everybody knows the rich have been getting a 'free ride' .... We need to continue the drum beat, and build the will to force this issue ...

In due time ....

5. You can't raise taxes on one group and lower on all others.
You can raise taxes for everybody but more on the rich.

6. That's nonsense ...
Progressive tax rates have a long standing in the public sphere ... They are accepted as fair and acceptable by a wide range of citizens in every nation ..

All except the rabid right, and a few people in DU .... ehem ...
