Cops: Jackass Star Ryan Dunn Was VERY DRUNK During Crash AND Traveling 132 to 140 MPH
Edited on Wed Jun-22-11 02:00 PM by Cali_Democrat
Holy shit! Drunk and going 140 MPH?

:wow:

http://www.tmz.com/2011/06/22/cops-ryan-dunn-drunk-blood-alcohol-level-porsche-drunk-wasted-hammered-police-chief/

"Jackass" star Ryan Dunn was extremely intoxicated at the time of his fatal crash Monday morning ... with a blood alcohol level of more than TWICE the legal limit ... this according to cops.

West Goshen Police Chief Michael Carroll told the Daily Local News ... Dunn's B.A.C. was .196 ... nearly two-and-a-half times the legal limit in Pennsylvania, which is .08.

Carroll added, "No other substances were found in his blood other than the alcohol."

As TMZ reported, Dunn and his passenger were killed when Dunn lost control of his Porsche, crashed in a wooded area and his car exploded in flames.

UPDATE: Now cops are saying Dunn was traveling between 132 and 140 MPH at the time of his crash.

11. He and Steve-O were on Minute To Win It a couple of weeks back, and
Steve-O did all the fine muscle coordination tasks while Dunn joked about having shaky hands. Chronic alcohol abuse can lead to that. I even remember thinking at the time it was likely he was an alcoholic. I guess I was right, fwiw.

14. One night of drinking does not make you an alcoholic.
He may or may not have been an alcoholic, but you can't determine that from one night.

You don't get that from one night of drinking, that's cumulative.

29. Shaky hands could be caused by a number of different things.
My sister has mild shakey hands and she is not an alcoholic. I'm sure many people would get shaky hands simply from being on a game shows. It could be caused by caffeine. Seeing someone shake on a game show is not enough to diagnose them as an alcoholic.

31. I'm not sure why you're trying to argue that point. You seem to be forgetting that he also
died in a car crash with a BAC of .196.

If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, quacks like a duck, it's probably.... just camera shy?

49. You claimed you weren't basing your diagnosis on one night of drinking, but on shaky hands.
Now you're back to basing it on one night of drinking. As I said, one night of drinking does not make you an alcoholic and neither does shaky hands. I'm not sure why you're arguing with that. That is just a fact. You're never going to get a doctor to make that diagnosis because it makes no sense.

"Doc, I went out drinking last night." "Well obviously you're an alcoholic."
"Doc, I went on a game show in front of millions of people and my hands were shaking." "Well obviously you're an alcoholic." LOL

You know what is scary... the Porsche was not even close
to it's max speed... and yes they do... high performance vehicles... a Porsche is in the category, are capable of those speeds.

And like this one, they are designed to fall appart when they hit anything... properly configured you could even survive the crash. See roll cage, and five point restraints. (as well as a few pieces of kit race car drivers wear)... now the car will NOT survive though. But it is not designed to do so,

Steve Wozniak got a ticket for over 100 mph in his Prius..

There are plenty of cars that will go that fast on the road today, your own car will probably go at least 110-120..

36. I drove a friend's Ferrari Maranello once.
He lives in the mountains in Utah and encouraged me to push it hard. I touched 95 on the empty, sweeping mountain roads where you can see for miles. The thing was a veritable purring kitten in town despite being a roaring tiger on the open road. Mario Andretti once said his mom could drive a Maranello safely at 175 on a track, and he wasn't kidding. You would have to make such a colossal (and likely intentional) mistake to get into any trouble in a Maranello that it isn't funny.

My pal also blasted me through a tunnel in another of his Ferraris and touched 130-140 before pulling it back to around 80. And mind you, my friend is a self-made millionaire (who earned every dime of his money by building the highest quality products in their field) 60+ Mormon who is the very antithesis of a hellion. He has, however, been to high-performance driving school and racing school and has owned Ferraris for 30+ years.

Edited on Wed Jun-22-11 02:22 PM by Lisa0825
"I was so drunk after the wedding reception that I drove home at 100mph so I could get home before I passed out."

Now, this guy was a total stranger to me, and I was just overhearing a private conversation of moderate volume, but I could not help myself. I turned to him and said, "That has got to be the most IDIOTIC thing I have EVER heard a person say. You are damn lucky you didn't kill yourself or someone else."

He looked completely stunned that I butted in, but did not debate me on his stupidity.

It was his fault and he, and another passenger, paid the ultimate price

While I think the BAC level for driving is a tad steep, I would never argue that this guy made the right decision.

69. That's why I think vehicular homicide by a drunk driver should carry
a very stiff penalty. One makes a conscious decision to consume a substance known to impair judgement, with this information having been made quite readily available to the drinking public.

Tragic, yes. Avoidable, also yes.

21. Look around and you'll see...
Look around in comments sections of various news stories and you will see the typical "Jackass" audience demographic making excuses or just being "saddened" or "bummed" adding in a healthy defensive dose of "how dare you speak of the dead..." or something similar. They (young, dumb and full of...)don't understand the gravity of the event or don't care. They are just "bummed out" that this idiot died. It was a stupid show to begin with. Assininity being enabled by an idiot demographic audience that thinks that shoving a toy car up their ass and going to the doctor is "so cool!" or jumping in sewage with snorkel and fins is awesomely funny.

This is where we are as a society. Look at the folks getting angry at Roger Ebert when he was right all along. Just because Ryan Dunn is now dead and was somebody's son doesn't get him a free pass from the heaping scorn he deserves for being a jerk. There is not enough that can be said, or loudly enough, that this whole "jackass" humor and mentality is destructive and devolves us. And enabling asshats like this to behave like that because he seems like a "cool bud' to hang out with who does awesomely stupid things-well, stupid is as stupid does. 2 and a half times the legal limit, and 130 plus mph in a porsche at 3 a.m. He really was a true jackass, and that's "so cool"(not).

Similarly, w/ John Belushi, I wasn't "saddened and bummed" but pissed and angry. It's not "cool" when stars die in wrecks and overdoses, and to merely be bummed or saddened is like throwing up arms and sending no message and continuing to allow it in the future. I call bullshit to being saddened and bummed. These assholes deserve no sympathy for destructive behavior.

I haven't seen the widespread denial here.

The current denial on the intertubez seems to be "I think the cops are making this up because yesterday they said it would take 4-6 weeks for the test results."

Yeah 4-6 weeks for a full toxicology. They either don't believe or do not want to believe that BAC can be determined with a quick blood test.

60. Some people have suggested a death wish. It could just as easily be a
God complex. Some people consider themselves to be beyond or above consequences. This guy got rich and famous by doing stunts--many of which were dangerous. Perhaps he had gotten to the point where he figured he could handle anything (especially when his judgment impaired by alcohol), and maybe ordinary dangerous stunts had gotten too run-of-the-mill for him.

It's also true that some people start to believe they have some sort of special dispensation once they have become rich and famous. It goes to their heads. Maybe he just was out for the thrill and assumed nothing bad could possibly happen to him.

Or maybe he did have a death wish--but if that were the case, then he certainly should not have taken a friend with him!

RadarOnline was the first site to claim he was, and I watched throughout the day as other media outlets repeated the claim. Many of them citing "according to RadarOnline", others offering no citation. But it definitely originated from one of their sources.

Radar has backtracked to "navy veteran" and scrubbed "Seal" from the story last I saw, however never made an official correction. Other sites haven't followed or noticed the change.

33. Drunk...and driving fast...
it's part of today's arrogance and lack of thought for themselves and others.

The show, IMHO, was a cog in the wheel of this arrogance.

I don't know how else to explain it, apparently he'd already had several close calls. I just don't understand the alcoholic mind :(

47. People who do that sort of crap don't just put themselves at risk. He killed his friend, too, and he
could easily have killed other people on the road. It's just luck that the deaths were limited to two.

Jackass indeed.

52. That settles it then. It's a fair and just sentence.
Luckily no innocents.
I hope the trees were not anything too desirable.

54. That's really sad. One very foolish act - and two people died who didn't have to

What is the point of having cars able to go that fast, anyway?

59. Thank goodness he didn't hurt anyone else.
If he were still alive, he should have been charged with reckless endangerment and hit with a long prison sentence. That car was a deadly weapon. This shit is not amusing.

bystanders and others in vehicles. "Professional Driver on a Closed Course," this wasn't.
