DU's change for the worse!!!!

Never Happened.

Or at least, much less than you would think. People have been loudly quitting because of the recent changes in DU since I started reading DU. I am more of a lurker here than poster child, I have not even hit 1000 and I have been posting for over six years. I have either been in the minority or felt like I was many times. I am religious, distrust electronic voting, love Carter, hate the DLC, wanted Kucinich for president and think that there was a cover-up after 9-11. So I have felt that my views were not always going to get a lot of sympathy.

When I first started posting, just about every month a new deal breaker came out about * and we were amazed that the country did not rise against him. At the same time, most of us were very careful about our identity, most of us were quite a bit concerned about the possibility of persecution. We had a government staffed by PNAC trying to prove that we could commit small numbers of troops to hundreds of tiny wars world wide and make sure that everything everywhere went the way that God and the Oil Companies intended things to go. Australia was the only place that was brave enough to publish the issues with electronic voting in the USA, and over that issue, I saw the first really large exodus of people quitting DU. Loudly.

We have gotten a lot of new people, as folk wake up and realize that there is not a singe conservative value that anyone can name, they end up here. They join because we stand for the issue that wedged them free from their comfort zone, but they carry with them a collection of beliefs and methods of argument that persist but slowly erode as they discover that this community will argue for truth even if the delusion is on our side.

So to celebrate my 666th post, I am announcing that I am not going to leave DU!

i have been here for a while. i think it is about the same. except our pres is a dem not repug so makes unanimity a little tougher. but as a whole, .... i think du is kick ass

9. I know what Purged is saying though...

I've been here for 7 years and have only posted 491 times. It was intimidating when I first signed up, it was like this private club that was standing up to Bush but I didn't feel like I knew enough to participate in the dialogue. I remember that I saw something about PNAC on another site and rushed to DU to share my find...and everyone was like "oh yeah we broke the story here first..." and "that's such old news" etc...
I've always enjoyed it here and it has changed but so have I. Before I wanted in the club of those cool Libs taking a stand, now I just want to see if there are people who see the world the way I do and maybe make some friends along the way. oh yeah, and to occasionally stir up some shit as well...I can't help it

Unless someone is being ganged up on, or a idea is not being expressed in a discussion, I tend to stay quite. I do try to put out new memes every now and then.

3. How disappointing. I do so miss the "goodbye, I'm....leaving" threads I've read over the years

on various online groups. Of course, what they really are saying are "goodbye, I'm...leaving, please beg me to stay" threads.

I haven't been here long enough to notice the changes that the "old timers" are.

I simply appreciate the fact that I can express myself freely here.

DU has gotten much larger. The more people, the more diversity of opinions. It's hard to find total agreement in a room of ten people much less a message board with 10s of thousands.

11. I've been here since Day One almost . . . and it's exactly the same as it's always been.

There are a lot of good folks, and a few who want to show off their "I'm more liberal than thou" credentials, and a few who just like to snark and get an emotional rush from the backlash.

That has never changed.

Frankly, I think it's somewhat better around here with the Mods pulling more posts.

Cheap-shots deserved to be pulled.
