Sarah and Bristol Palin Trademark Their Names
Source: The Wall Street Journal.

Sarah Palin has been a household name for a few years. Within 12 weeks, she will likely be a brand name as well.

The same goes for her daughter Bristol Palin, who successfully filed to trademark her name, too.

The former Alaska governor and 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee fulfilled the requirements for trademarking her name, barring any unusual administrative findings, said Cynthia Lynch, a representative for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

I know; I know. I swore I'd never post about them again.

From now on, though, they are to be referred to as the Sarah Palin® or Bristol Palin® brand of (whatever). I'll let you supply the "whatever." Otherwise, expect the wrath of Righthaven.

10. Not sure I agree with you. A bit harsh.
But, you're on the same wavelength I am. How many people really refer to her as "Sarah Palin"? She should have trademarked names like, "Sarah Failin'", "Quitter Queen", and that oldy but goody "Bible Spice".

As for Bristol?

By trademarking their "real" names, they've only disrupted their own fans.

13. What exactly does that mean? Can no one ever write her name without her permission now?
Can her name no longer be in any news article unless she approves? I think this is a good thing.. Maybe we won't be subjected to her name every day from now until after the Primaries...

20. lmao about this part:
snip: Ms. Palin’s lawyer initially filed for a trademark that covered “educational and entertainment services, namely, providing motivational speaking services in the field of politics, culture, business and values.” Ms. Palin’s application later expanded to include “information about political elections” and “a website featuring information about political issues.”

Bristol Palin’s trademark will apply to “educational and entertainment services, namely, providing motivational speaking services in the field of life choices.” At 20 years old, Bristol has penned a soon-to-be released memoir “Not Afraid of Life: My Journey So Far,” and ABC has the highlights today, from the 2008 campaign, to her ex-boyfriend to her season on “Dancing With The Stars.” snip

 Yeah, I'm motivated by a 20 y.o. unwed mother who got pregnant at age 17 with no job and a boyfriend who dropped out of school. But now she's turned her life around thanks to her stupid mother who ran for veep and has a reality show featuring shooting endangered animals. Very motivational. :puke:

33. Has a presidential candidate ever trademarked their name before?
Since this covers "motivational speaking services in the field of politics, culture, business and values", and "information about political elections", would a presidential debate have to caption her as "Sarah Palin®"? Since she has to defend the trademark for it to be valid. Or is this confirmation she'll never formally run, since it would just be too tacky for a candidate to be claiming she trades in politics?

Hang on, what am I saying, "Sarah PalinSarah Palin®" and "too tacky" ...
