1. Ironically...
it would not have passed without the votes that Minority Leader Dirksen rounded up on his side of the aisle and, in fact, he marshalled a larger percentage of the GOP Senators due to the intransigence of the Dixiecrats.

Suffice it to say that Mitch McConnell is no Everett Dirksen.
