5. Technically, all mucus membranes will absorb things. Suppository anyone?
Vaginal and anal membranes will absorb the same things a mouth will.

9. Careful, you don't want the FDA in on this.
They would only approve "safe" toys and they would cost 10 times more.

12. Sheeeeesh easy fix just use condoms on your sex toys if your
that worried about toxins. In fact condoms also lower the risk of infections because after your done you just throw the condoms away so you don't have to worry about toy being washed after use because the last thing people think about before or after is did they wash the toy.

14. You're not gonna believe this, but they are
There are two chemicals (well, one chemical and one family of them) that make sex toys toxic.

The first are "phthalates," specifically di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP) and dibutyl phthalate (DBP). DEHP is banned in children's playthings in Europe (I was gonna say "children's toys" but one of you sick weirdos would ask why you're giving kids dildos so no, it's "children's playthings") and DBP is banned in cosmetics, specifically nail polish. (They say "cosmetics," but the only one I know of that would need a plasticizer like DBP is nail polish.) I don't know about you, but if I don't want a chemical on my nails, I DEFINITELY don't want it on my mucous membranes!

The other is PVC, If you google "the poison plastic" you will find that PVC is terrible--it either contains or emits dioxin, phthalates, vinyl chloride (which it's made from), ethylene dichloride, lead, cadmium and tin.

Link, because of popular demand: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/09/11/phthalate_warning/

Some sex toys' aroma will knock you on your ass--they emit so many chemicals it'll scare the shit out of you.

26. only for wastewater, if at all
Many years ago "black" PVC was used in supply lines in some manufactured homes. It did not perform well. The "plastic" tubing generally used in plumbing now is PEX, or cross-linked polyethylene. More robust stuff than PVC.

27. The black stuff is ABS, not PVC
And you are exactly right, ABS pipe fails quickly. Series 40 PVC is a reliable drain/waste/vent pipe, but it's illegal to use for potable water and it doesn't handle hot water at all.

There's another pipe system that's worse: polybutylene. It's gray and looks a lot like PEX. It was supposed to be The Pipe of the Future, until a lot of municipalities converted from chlorine disinfection to chloramine. Chloramine eats holes in this crap, and a lot of polybutylene systems have failed.

Today you have two real choices in plastic pipe. One is CPVC, which is a light yellow pipe. It's rigid and has to be glued together. The other is PEX, which you talked about. This stuff is the way to go--it's flexible, which CPVC is not, and you connect it by crimping rings around the fittings.

Don't look at me, though--if I was doing new construction I'd run 3/4" galvanized for cold water, 1/2" galvanized for hot and insulate both. The bigger cold will keep you from getting scalded in the shower if someone flushes the toilet.
